After tallying up the 41,651 votes, nominations have ended and voting for the Top 100 indie games are underway (see also top mods, apps and vr). Now another 10 days of voting begins as the Top 100 indies battle it out to crown the 2016 winner. You have up until the 21st of December pick who will take away the 2016 Indie of the Year!
Popular picks among the Top 100 this year include The Isle, Stellaris, Guts and Glory, alongside indie darlings like INSIDE, Stardew Valley and Firewatch and many other great indies worth exploring. It is always incredibly exciting looking at the calibre of entries (and those who missed out by a whisker), and knowing that us gamers are spoiled for choice.
"You can vote for more than one game, so vote for all your favorites!"
If you made it to the Top 100, don't miss this opportunity to spread the good word and get the support you need to take the winners crown, keep showcasing all your hard work and informing the community of your releases! Congratulations for the huge effort to indies that made the final count and for those that didn’t it was very close. Best of luck in top 100!
Tell us what you are voting for and/or disappointed missed out
Where is Father's Island? You want to tell me that some of those non-released pre-alphas got more votes than the most successful Austrian Steam game of 2016 ?
Agreed, that doesn't look right ^^
Please keep calm and drink a beer (or tea or coffee).
We appreciate your support, but if we treat this like a contest, the golden rule applies: Never discuss with the judges ;)
still strange enough, I bet half of your Facebook fans voted...
Thanks I appreciate this. Ivan I've sent you an email - happy to discuss there as we are with any game wondering how they ended up. It is incredibly tough narrowing down 20,000 nominated indie games to just 100, especially considering how many are so deserving!
Hi Scott, I already replied and provided some evidence you might find useful.
I have discussed this with Scott and we are good. All stay calm, there will be an IOTY 2017, too ;)
You are good, we get that. You are calm, we get that, too.
I can't understand it, though. Father's Island is together with Lion's Song the best Austria has released this Year, and now one of the two is out of the race, under shady circumstances...
And don't think we are stupid, it was quite visible that all your PR and Facebook Fuzz has also generated lots of votes. There is a live ticker, after all...
1. As stated below, guest votes don't count that much compared to members / trusted members one. I fully understand and support that approach.
2. There are certain hints that perhaps fans of us voted in a way that raised some flags. Scott explained that to me, and I understand the reasoning.
As said, all is good from our side and I don't want to complain here.
This is very strange indeed. The games with a few watchers and views get to the top 100. Doesn't look right.
AAA games Stellaris and Hearts of Iron IV in the Top 100 Indies? WTF?
Paradox *IS* independent in the very meaning of the word. And the games are still developed on a rather Indie budget.
AAA is perhaps a little exageerated ;)
Woo we made it!
Congratulations!
i would have liked to see clearly the votes on other games and mine :) just to understand how many votes make you be part of this top 100
It is a complicated system, which is necessary to *try* and keep it honest and fair for all. Votes are most important to make the top 100, but votes are weighted based on how trusted a member is (i.e. an established member is a great vote to get, moreso than a guest vote for example).
We are happy to tell any indie game how they did, and can say STAR SHIFT fell in the range of 150 ~ 175 which is a phenomenal effort given the competition
I guessed members vote are, fairly, more relevant than external votes =) thank you for the information about our range =) it's very important for us ! =)
Here to help indies in any way we can. Trusted Member votes are important, because they are much harder to game, and creating tons of new member accounts won't really help either!
Congratulations to those that did make it into the Top 100. Obviously disappointed that we didn't make it but, quick question: since our game is in Early Access and will not be "fully released" until next year, does that mean we will be eligible for nomination in 2017?
Yes you shall be. Games can be in repeat times but generally only receive an honorable mention if this occurs
The isle is one of the best games of 2016!
