Acquiring the Items ;
Item Locations
Black Mushrooms - Act 1 - Cathedral Level 1
- Start a Normal game on Act 1 Quest 10 Part 1, and take the
waypoint to the Cathedral Garden. Go inside Leorics Passage, walk up the stairs
to the Cathedral Level 1 and search for the Black Mushroom.
Leorics Shinbone - Act 1 - Leorics Manor
- Start a Normal game on Act 1 Quest 10 Part 1, and take the
waypoint to Leorics Manor, On your way to the entrance of Leorics Manor, you
will see a side room with a fireplace. Click the logs in the fireplace and
recieve Leorics Shinbone, if the logs are not clickable; Town portal - Leave
game - Resume game.
Liquid Rainbow -Act 2 - Dahlgur Oasis
- Start a Normal game on Act 2 Quest 6 Part 2, and take the
waypoint to The Path of the Oasis. Follow the south east wall, check the 2
vendor-spawn locations. If he is there, save him from the attacking ghosts. If
he is not there; Town portal - Leave game - Resume game.
Gibbering Gemstone - Act 3 - Caverns of Frost Level 2
- Start a Normal game on Act 3 Quest 7 Part 1, and take the
waypoint to The Bridge of Korsikk. Look around for the "Caverns of Frost
Level 1" Enter the cave, go to the "Caverns of Frost Level 2"
and kill Chiltara. Chiltara will not always be here, Chiltara will also only
drop one item, and that item will be the Gibbering Gemstone. If you find
Icefall Caverns; Town portal - Leave game - Resume game; as Chiltara will only
spawn in the Caverns of Frost.
Wirts Bell - Act 2 - Squirt the Peddler (Vendor)
- Start a Normal game on Act 2 Quest 10 Part 1, and walk to
the vendors near the healers, talk to Squirt the Peddler and buy the Wirts bell
for 100,000 gold.
Staff of Herding ( Plans) - Act 4
The Normal version of the plans are dropped randomly by Izaul on Act 4: Prime Evil. Head to The Crystal Colonnade and find your way to the Gateway to the Silver Spire.Next you will enter the Silver Spire Level 1, and finally encounter Izaul on The Great Span. Plans also are dropped randomly by Diablo, found after the Silver Spire Level 2 after Izual.
- Note: The plans are not a guaranteed drop.
- Lowering your Magic Find can help since this is a white item.
The Nightmare and Hell versions of the staff require a separate recipe which can be purchased from Gorell the Quartermaster in town in Act 4. To buy the recipe, you must be on the quest to kill Diablo.
While the recipes can be bought for 20,000 for the Nightmarish Staff
Plans(after newest patch1.03), crafting the staff is quite expensive at
200,000 gold for the Nightmarish Staff of Herding, 500,000 gold for the Hellish Staff of Herding, and 1,000,000 gold for the Infernal Staff of Herding.
Fortunately you do not need to obtain the many items found throughout
the acts as with the first version of the staff - you just upgrade the
previous staff with a fixed amount of gold.
Crafting The Staff
- Go to the Blacksmith and use your Plans: Staff of Herding.
- Bring the materials: The Black Mushroom, Leorics Shinbone,
Liquid Rainbow, Gibbernig Gemstone, Wirts Bell, and 50,000 gold to the
Blacksmith.
Getting to the Secret Level
- Take the staff to the open red glowing Crevasse on Old Tristram Road in Act 1.
- The Ghost of the Cow King will come out of his corpse. Talk to him.
- After a funny conversation between you and the Cow King, You unlock the level, Known as Whimsyshire.
Well I finally got the Staff of Herding plans off of Izaul, after trying about 20 times, what a pain in the butt that was !! Crafted the Staff of Herding, and entered the secret level, crazy hidden level. LoL What was Blizzard smokin? My buddy and I never laughed so hard ! Nothing like getting your butt kicked by something so cute and cuddaly ! LoL.... Great level Blizzard.
