I was a little sceptical about starting another Gold Source mod. When you consider that the engine is around 14 years old it seems mad to start mapping for it now.

The thing is, there are hundreds of GoldSource mods out there now, some still in development. While many of these are pushing the engine to new limits with HD models and textures and programming overhauls, I always prefer those mods that remain true to the original format. Low poly models and textures which rarely exceed 128x128 pixels. I'm talking Residual Life, Life's End, even Scientist's View.

It is with that in mind that I started the mod Standard Procedure. Sure it looks dated by today's standards, even by moddb's standard, but I wanted to produce something that would take people back to the first time they stepped into Black Mesa.

Anyway, enough talk. Here are the few shots of the opening map that I have gathered so far.

Chapter 1 - Initiation Chapter 1 - Initiation Chapter 1 - Initiation Chapter 1 - Initiation Chapter 1 - Initiation

Finally, I would like to thank those who have tracked the mod so far and given feedback on the media. It really means a lot.

More coming soon. :D

Nothing wrong with creating content for such an old engine as surprisingly the limitations you'll find yourself working around will end up teaching you a lot. Working around such limitations can often teach you some great methods in regards to optimisations and various tricks.

Whilst mods that push the engine to its limits are always impressive, I am always excited to see mods that aim to bring back to original feel that the game itself created. Reminds me of DTWID - Dtwid.herokuapp.com (Sorry if you'd rather I didn't post links) I've added this to my watch list and am looking forward to watching your progress. :)

It seems Cry of Fear really brought some life to the Half-Life 1 modding community.

Well I'm tracking away, especially interested in using some HL2 characters in the storyline! Look forward to playing it when it's done =)

good to hear that some people are still loyal to the HL1 engine, although it has to be said, the group of people that still active download and play Hl1 mods get smaller and smaller. But, when you don't go for the big download numbers, then you should indeed make a mod with the Gold Source engine.

Personaly i prefer HL2 (ep2) mapping/modding, HL1 does look to ourdated for me, it makes that i can't really emerge anymore in this game. But that is just me,

much success,
screens look great!
