In a post on the Oculus blog, Oculus announced new virtual reality social features coming to the company's VR devices, starting with the Gear VR. Soon, users will be able to create a profile and connect with others, using either their real name or username. Additionally, you'll be able to create a virtual "room" and watch Twitch and Vimeo streams with your friends, in VR.
Oculus is also releasing new social VR games. The first of which, called Social Trivia, is a basic trivia game set around the table which represents each user with their chosen VR personas. The second game, Herobound: Gladiators, is a multiplayer adventure game in which players co-operate to eliminate demons in an arena.
Facebook's 360-degree videos are also getting their own, special hub. Under the Oculus Video section, a new Facebook videos tab will appear after connecting your Facebook account to Oculus Video. Here, new 360-degree videos will appear based on your Facebook profile information.
Oculus plans to release "new tools for developers that make it even easier to create more incredible social VR games and apps" later this month. Though these new social aspects were only announced for Gear VR, it can be assumed that they'll work similarly on the Oculus Rift when it launches at the end of the month, too.
