The good news is that I've managed to finish the mod. The final size is around 2.5 gigabytes. It works well on my old laptop too, so that's another good thing. The download link will be available here:
There are some textures however that I left untouched, those freakin' sprites that I mentioned in the previous articles (for example: green blood splatter, Gith's head fx). If I replace them with bigger textures, the in-game sprite size increases with the image's size. Imagine a single blood splat from a mosquito that is bigger than your player character. I spent days trying to solve it. Found the file where I can modify the sprite/shader behavior, however nothing changes in the game at all when I test it out. The good thing is that only a few textures affected by this issue.
This game is pretty old, and there are some things you can tweak to get the best results.
- For compatibility issues and custom resolution, check out the following page: PCGamingWiki - Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K. 2
- You can force the game to use 16x anisotropic filtering via AMD/Nvidia control panel.
