Post news Report RSS Event Content Decided Upon

Alright, I was planning on doing a vote and the like, but sense those who were willing to post in the news - simply said the same things, or utterly unrelated things (lol).

I've decided to simply choose to go with GooberTrooper's idea of a Map Making Contest, and then a tournament held on said maps!

I see no real point in setting a start date, because as soon as you see this - you'll start lol...

So before I start setting rules for the map making contest, anyone want to make any special requests on rules? Also, what do you all think is a fair end time? I don't want to wait until 1.7 to get 1.6 maps XD

Also, can anyone think of any rewards? I already plan on featuring the winner on the front page of the group... but other than that, I'm kinda low on ideas, lol... If you come up with anything, feel free to PM me about it.

Anyways, that about covers this one...

P.S. anyone entering can go ahead and say they are here, though you can also simply post a map before the ending time that's decided upon, and say it's your entry to the comp.

NOTE: ALL maps for this contest MUST have TE 1.6 map content on them, if you don't know how to mod your world builder, either contact me, or see the tutorials section of this forum.

NOTE(2): Any maps submitted for this contest without 1.6 map content, will be disqualified and the poster notified that they need to add 1.6 content to be eligable... Then they may re-enter the map after it qualifies.

Thank you

NOTE(3): Remember, the contest hasn't officially even started yet, so don't start uploading your entries yet. Take your time and tweak them to make them the best they can be!

- Maybe an amount of players capacity.
- maybe a basic map settings? removal of some structures allowed (SW example) (just not the the map is totally scripted, it's still a map, not a storybook)

Thats for me mostly important at rules, so that also maybe beginners got a fair chance.

A month's time should be a fair amount of time for the mapping contest to run. Although, I've never made a map, so I wouldn't know what's fair. xD

Haha you know I'll be in the contest! Is there a limit to how many may be released?
PS: This is going to be first time releasing maps, so I'm pretty excited!

That's actually a good question, I was thinking just one. But I suppose sets could be allowed. Though I would like to see =/< 3

Set is nice, but just 1 for the contest!

Yah, that's the only way I can see to grade them evenly... Not everyone has time to make more than one ^_^

Alright, that's fine with me! I'm still planning on releasing a bunch of maps for the TE community though.
Now I just have to figure out which one is good enough for the contest...

SC, if you want, you and I could do balance testing. Depending on my course load over the next several months, I should be free on any given weekend.

Plus, I have unlimited data for the next 3 months. Get back to me on skype tomorrow.

That's a good idea actually, I'll definiatly have to keep that in mind,

Also, I will of course take symmetrical maps, but by no means must they be symmetrical or tournament maps, just release what looks fun and awesome and see what happens... Just remember to try to keep it balanced ^_^

So, since me and Ben are going to be testing them, all I can say is this: We can and will play on literally any map, regardless of size.
What I'm thinking is that we play twice (or more than once at least) while ben finds some kind of empirical value for fun, and I score for balance.
If theres any other categories you guys think we should have...
(Style of map will be a cooperative thing we'll decide upon.)

I believe that are the 3 main factors to me.
- Balance
- Surroundings
- enjoyment

But I'm still with what is the minimum/maximum of players map will be needed? started a map out of scrap. and the amount would be a nice thing to know then.

personally, I'm a fan of 4 player maps, they've always seemed the most easy to balance IMO... though there are maps of all sizes I like. :P

In TE is little maps for 8 players. It may worth to make several such maps.I am aware that map for 8 players is an awful lot of work :(

depends on what your about to do with it.
building a city map for 2 players can be already a handful. while a desert map for 6 can be quiet easy. :)

It is truth.
I honestly do not know how to make maps but I can try it.
