Post news Report RSS Dead Before Dawn Needs Your Help

Today, me fellow Left 4 Dead fans, I bring you sad, sad news. Darth_Brush has been hit by a terrible ordeal. His computer has packed up he won't be able to work on Dead Before Dawn until he can buy a new computer. It is in this light, that we come to you, the Left 4 Dead community and Dead Before Dawn fans.

It will take roughly 6-8 weeks before Darth_Brush can afford another computer and this will drastically delay the release of Dead Before Dawn. If you have some spare cash, please donate so we can buy Darth_Brush a new computer in Germany so we can release the campaign on schedule.

We are planning on releasing the campaign on Halloween, if we can get Darth_Brush a new computer/laptop in a week or 2, we will be able to stick to our goal. Please spread the news if you can't donate, maybe someone else you know can donate. To donate, please click on the Paypal link to the left of this article or send donations to admin@l4dmods.com.

If we can get Darth_Brush a new computer in time, we will release never before seen footage of the campaign in versus mode. We have been working our fingers to the bone for the fans of versus mode and we are confident that you will love the versus campaign of Dead Before Dawn.

If we do not collect enough money for a new computer, we will return each and every donation received. While we're on this topic, what do you think is a reasonable PC to use for mapping and playing Left 4 Dead?

To say thank you for all the people who donated, we decided to give everyone who donated $10 or more their own wall writing in the game. Now you, the player can search the campaign for your very own Easter Egg.

Erik and Stefanie donated and will have their names carved into a tree:
"Erik & Stefanie 4Eva" with 2 dead bodies on the ground next to the tree.

UPDATE!!!|

Hi guys! Just to let you know, we have now enough money to buy a PC. Darth_Brush scraped some money together that his wife won't know about (lol). He donated 200USD to the cause himself.

I am now just waiting for him to send his address over to me so I can finalize the payment of the PC. Donations are always welcome, but from now on, there's no need unless you really feel like you want your name in the campaign.

I personally want to thank each and everyone one who donated, wether you donated 1c (yes, someone actually did) or if you donated $100 (some people did). It always makes you proud to be a part of a community that helps eachother up when we have fallen down.

I would also like to tell you guys, that the guys who donated $50 or more will now be included into the Beta Testing team. You trusted us with your money, we will trust you with our campaign.

Again, thank you so much for all your help! I will post an article on www.L4DMods.com when we have the PC assembled and ready!

Wow... $849.09 Total so far! (or is that $949.09 inc. L4DMods.com's donation?). Great to see so many generous people donating during these tough financial times! ;)

Ask and thou shalt recieve...especially if you throw in some chance at fame/immortality. Hey, if I get to see this thing finished, I'll be happy :)

A basic pc for mainly source modding can be as follow:
2.0GHZ Dual core.
3GB+ DDR2 RAM or more.
300GB HDD or more.
ATI/NVIDIA GPU with 512MB ram or more, at least Year 2007+ Quality...

I think Simple PC package sold for 600-700 dollars in Bestbuy or Futureshop is enough for mapping alone...

As for the people donating, maybe it's also a good idea to improve upon each detail in the map, since people are now literally paying you (for a new pc) lol?

The game is called "Impression" and if money gets involved, you need to work harder to catch up to people's expectation..

the maps were already profesionally detailed before the donation so it's really just an aid now, he compiles maps that took 27minutes to compile in 7 minutes and no crashes. Thanks to the comunity , his map making process has become alot faster than on a laptop: it means also that more time can be spent adding even more details.

If you ask me this campaign is even more details than map :) :P

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Check Darth's hours using the SDK then we can talk again.

I wish I could donate some cash, but unfortunately, I am jobless. And I'd donate more than $20 if I had a job.

People are very generous based on the amount of people donating. :)

Dont worry about it mate. Donations are NOT mandatory to show your support. Your comment here is a donation by itself!

Actually, this many people donating shows that there are still those who have it better than others, and will do so for a long, long, long time...

I think its because of human nature that we separate ourselves into classes using money... >_>

This whole thing reminds me of those homeless people at the ends of freeway ramps, asking for handouts. They can really rack up the money to buy their booze!
