Post news Report RSS A New World, A Blemished Legacy, and an update almost 5 years on

It's been a while, huh? An update on A New World, why it (or a remake) won't be happening, where I've been, potential futures, and an apology to the community.

Howdy. Long time no see.
I sincerely thank those who by some miracle find this page or still care at all about it.
Ever since 2020, stuff's changed a lot. Carnivores got the modder's engine which broke that huge limitation I felt with the burnout around modding, many people have came and went, and I've changed a lot as a person. I've said it before here and there, but I know I myself am to blame for a significant amount of the content and strife regarding Carnivores over the years between 2016 and 2020, either by being the victim of it (Glisp), actively involving myself in it (canon drama), or instigating it (whatever political nonsense I was into). I was disagreeable, an asshole, vindictive, angry, bitter, and burned many bridges with people who I should be able to get along with perfectly well. We all like dinosaurs, we all like cool alien worlds, we all like vintage paleoart, most of us like monsters and scifi, and a lot of us also like guns, which is stuff we all bonded over plenty of times, but we were divided over small (and sometimes larger, more justifiable) differences that fractured the community over tiny things that really never should have been a big deal. Who cares if my mod has dinosaurs with bright colors? Who cares if someone's mod doesn't want to consider mine a part of its lore? That should be up to the creator, and I think a lot of trying to force confirming was terrible for everyone involved, and while I have privately apologized to many people for my actions, I openly apologize to the community, even if I have a legacy or reputation as some vindictive prick, which, fair enough, I absolutely was. I hope, though, I'm not like that anymore, even if I can get grumpy sometimes.

As for A New World, it is unlikely it will ever see the light of day. Same goes for Primordial, A Dawning End, what have you. Almost everything I had made for this project is either buried so deep in a discord server finding it would be highly impractical and very piecemeal at best, or was on my previous hard drive, which is now lost to time. I don't think I even have anything left of Hadeisutyrannus (the Bleeding Rose Feathered Dragon) other than screenshots (put as the article preview). And, even still, if it was to come back, I would rather remake it from the ground up. Ultimately, however, Plutyrian is gone, Poharex is gone, I don't really know how to mod all that well and I sort of just rode off the ability of others to get stuff done. I was always quite lazy, and I always did art, writing lore, concepting, and texturing better than anything else. I never liked modeling and animation was too tedious for me, and Ophie never made his mapping tutorial back then (no idea if he has now lol). I had grand ambitions for ideas that weren't at all possible and entirely hinged on the engine being modified, or even making the game in a different engine. A Dawning End was supposed to be in GZDoom, much like Total Chaos. One of these things was a secret eldritch creature, The Nethen, that would have been a secret part of the mod. Basically imagine a Wendigo or Leshy, but with an Agathaumas skull instead. It was supposed to have been a boss fight that could only be damaged by a specific weapon, and only rarely appeared in a single map.

The elephant in the room is the modder's engine where stuff like rare and specific map spawns are possible, and that would require entirely new skills to learn. All this said though, Plutyrian is dissolved, none of the core creators are still here, thus the large grand story with lore cannot come to fruition, and I think without that, New World would feel hollow. At one point, I had actively fully planned to remake New World, with the new title, "Blood and Dragons", and I even did a new logo for it.

Thematically it'd be the same, but with just more refinement, updated designs with a bit better saturation/contrast (as in, less on each), etc. I had begun with a redesign of Hadesiutyrannus to be more like an eastern dragon while retaining some Shin Gojira elements,

but that died before it got off the ground when I left the community and decided to put Carnivores behind me for the sake of my mental health. This was honestly a good decision, as some time away from it has made the heart grow fonder, and such stuff. I've since gone on to get a job working as a concept artist with an indie game, as well as opening art commissions, and doing my own original project and my Monster Hunter fanon project, Aberrations. All this said however, I am not discounting the possibility of coming back to Carnivores sometime, possibly soon. I have had many ideas and an itch that can't be scratched with these other projects, and games such as theHunter Call of the Wild have had me yearning for Dinosaur hunting again. Lately, I've been humbled by finding out New World's menu music was uploaded on its own to youtube by somebody, and that there's a video entirely in Spanish about NW/Hadesia lore with over 5k views, which is mindboggling to me. Someone made a lore video on my project, without my involvement in it, in another language to share with other people. I have a legacy, even if it's a tainted one, and it has made me very nostalgic and longing for the old days of Carnivores modding. So you never know, I may come back to it, and do something new. Probably not ANW, but something more, 'me', but who knows. And maybe with, you know, some more effort on my part this time. Time will tell.

Sincerely,
-Dawn

Reading this was extremely bittersweet. It brought back so much memories. I had honestly forgot about Carnivores until someone showed me this post. It was such a long time. That generation of modders we started with: Poharex, Ophie, Cactus, Jake, you, Fluffy, Barry, Fish, and Jeff. Most of then are gone, and seeing them all go made me sad. I wish things had gone differently.

Now im here reading about the confirmed cancelation of A New World. I made an account just to reply to this. It made me realize how much had changed. I hope you do well in your new project. I genuinely believe you are an amazing artist, Dawn. I just wish I was there to see it, but maybe its best we dont talk again. Hope you and the ripoff artists are doing well.

Sorry if I don't recongize your name immediately, what was your username back then?
And honestly the only one of those I speak to at all is Fluffy, the rest have all gone their separate ways.

Admittedly i purposely chose this name because i didnt want anyone to recognize me, so dont worry. Im a bit afraid to say my username because the last time we talked, i was not in the right state of mind and it ended badly. I feel you know who i might be lol.

If you want to DM me and tell me, that's fine.
Admittedly, that doesn't particularly narrow it down that much, things went bad with quite a few people. Everything happened so long ago that I'm pretty much mentally past it all.

Been waitin' for this like forever.....
This used to be a mod I had high hopes for back then. Well, the demo wasn't that bad, but had a great potential. But then over the years I started forgetting about this. This truly lightens me up.

I´m the Spanish youtuber who made the explanation of New World a long time ago, I´m glad to see that my explanation reached your eyes (Although it aged somewhat poorly) as well as that despite the time people still like the idea of the project, even attempts of revivals of this same one.

I would like to make some videos about the post to keep my community informed about the case.

for whatever it’s worth i’m very sorry that things turned out the way they did, i’ve thought about it a lot over the past few years and i really do regret how much of a dickhead i was back then. i wasn’t much more than a nasty petulant child, but i’d like to think i’ve grown past that since then (as we all have). in hindsight it was a bit silly how seriously we all took things and silly how we let something we all loved divide us like that. i just want you to know that i am truly, deeply sorry about how awful i was back then, and that from my perspective all of the old drama is just water under the bridge. i hope you’re doing well now and i wish you luck with anything you choose to do in the future. i think it would be neat if you ever did decide to come back, the community has really changed so much over the past three years.

some things never change—ophious still hasn’t finished the map tutorial lol

Thanks, it means a lot, genuinely. Nobody should squarely put too much blame on themselves, everyone was sort of an ***, but I was a particularly egregious one.

And, honestly, I didn't think he had, lol. Maybe after he finishes it, we can have the brulku final release??!!??

Don't worry the past is the past, as long as people move foreward to do better! It'd be great to see you back in the community as a reformed version of yourself. Also your ideas for Carnivores would work well as a Doom-like boomer shooter XD

This gave me a sort of closure i didn't know i needed, it's really good hearing from you and that you've grown as a person and that you were able to reflect on mistakes of the past but most importantly: moving on, looking back we were all really toxic and hostile, but it seems good to know that we've grown since then.

I don't think i ever said goodbye when i left your server, it just felt like i didn't belong but i kinda always had the thought at the back of my mind to maybe reach out and say why and to maybe talk stuff out, i guess this comment is it though, if you ever wanna come back to the community feel welcome to, even if it's just to hang out.

Also, getting a job with an indie dev is a major W, congrats!.

I wasn't in the server when everything occurred but I'm glad to see that you're doing well! Feel free to come back anytime! Also, there is a new modding tool along with the MEE called CMM, here's the link: Game3dee.github.io

I wasn't around until the last few years before the cycle died and most of the heads left. As much as I miss the general idea behind the community canon and the cycle, it definitely had its problems (much of which were behind close doors, which isn't my business to comment on). I do still yearn for that feeling of unity and collaborating together, building up to some grand story....

I do wish we all could have witnessed the full story how it was meant to be presented, but I'm glad we all get at least some form of a proper send off. Regardless though, I'm glad you're in a better headspace and position in life now, and I do hope you at least try to take another crack at modding, its only gotten easier since! (and sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record, but I'm more then willing to help you with understanding the new tools and engine, even as jus a basic guide c:)

Regardless of what you decide to do, do take care of yourself ^v^

During the pandemic, I stumbled upon your mod and somewhat became invested in it. I waited for a long time for you to update the game and here we are, thanks to Sauriantarget's latest video at the time of typing this, I quickly checked this ModdB page of yours and I was immediately greeted with the mod update.

Take your time on modding, the mod's story would have a bit of rework so it fits in the Carnivores Lore.
