Uplink OS is a total graphical modification to 2001's indie cult hit Uplink: Trust is a Weakness by Introversion Software. It aims to bring a fresh look to the game's cyberpunk visuals and a much needed upgrade to its interface and usability.

Hello!

Here with another guide, just so I have where to point people who encounter the same problems! ^_^

So, the old Custom Gateways are already compatible and there's nothing changed about their installation:

  • Just Extract/copy their "data" and "graphics" folders into Uplink's root directory and that's it!

Now, this will work just fine, but their thumbnails in the Gateway purchase screen will either appear as the default texture (that nasty pink one) or - from v102 onwards - the normal UOS gateway thumb. If you also want the original thumbnail to appear in-game, you'll have to do the following:

  • Go to the "graphics/gateway" folder and locate the Gateway's thumbnail file (ex. GatewayName_t.tif)
  • Open it in a graphics editor (old Paint will do)
  • Resize it to a maximum of 148x205 pixels (you can skip this one, but the image will spill)
  • Save it as a PNG file inside of the "uplinkHD/graphics" folder, keeping its name (ex. GatewayName_t.png)
  • That's it!

You'll now be able to see its thumnail! :D

You should keep in mind that big Gateways (pretty much all custom ones are, haha!) will most probably have some spilling in the View Gateway screen. Unfortunately, I couldn't fix this code side, so if you want to see it nice and tidy, you'll also need to edit its config file inside "data/gateways", which won't be covered in this guide, but if you happen to have any questions: ask away! :D

Cheers & happy hacking!
