what ever can make into .ALO files.
3D max 9 is required for exporting .alo only with UaW Mod toolkit in addition. No program natively exports to .alo.
In addition modelers would be worthless unless they can uv for your skinner.
On top of that, there are about 18 individuals who are testing the UaW mod toolkit for Petroglyph, there about 4 of them who can model. And only 3 who have max9 and then a limited 2 who know how to rig for alamo engine.
Just because there are 4 modelers trying out that toolkit doesn't mean they're the only modelers out there. There are plenty of people with 3d's Max 9 that might be wanting to do it

quite right loads from the bfme2 modding had it along with renx and gmax (renx and gmax was irrelevant)
i know people from bfme2 that have max3ds and they where good and also if i do give them the modding kit then they can do it.
Yes there are other 3d modeling programs. Gmax is rather bad because it is difficult to port into 3d max along with plenty of mesh issues it creates, blender in that regards is better.
The major limitations of the Alamo engine is that only 3d max 9 will be able to export it for many many months and your post is the one which states "You must be able to have the required moddling kit". I'm just stating at this point and time it is irreverent because the people who have it now are debugging it rather then putting things into the game.
