Return of the Shadows is a mod taking place in an alternate timeline, set after the events of the Imperial Civil War. The Imperial Remnant and the New Republic have signed peace and formed the Galactic Alliance, uniting the majority of the galaxy under a single banner. Corellian Engineering Corporation, Kuat Drive Yards and Mon Calamari Shipyards have been given the task of designing a new line of modern warships while the former Imperial Task Forces are hunting down the remnants of the Black Sun Pirates and the Hut Cartel. However, when an ancient alien race invades the galaxy Yuuzhan Vong style, the entire galaxy is thrown into peril once again. The majority of the galaxy has fallen within seven days and the Galactic Alliance has been pushed back to the south of the galaxy, now ruling from Geonosis. Imperial Extremists travel to Dathomir and establish a new Galactic Empire: The Tyranny. The galaxy is thrown into war once again.

megavin. It would seem you've come along way since your early efforts. A very good start but watch that poly count!!

Thanks for the warning and thanks for the positive feedback. :) Anyway to reduce the polycount afterwards?

Well to me this looks a bit like a quick strike vessel, maybe something smaller than a medium cruiser (destroyer perhaps), and with that in mind I would say try to aim for no more than 4000 polys. Of course, if this was my model I would aim for as low as possible and let any textures handle the finer details. For example. Looking at the original I would firstly build as low a mesh as possible (maybe try for around 1000 polys), then increase the details for specific sections, such as the engines or front.

Remember its cylinders and spheres that pile on the polys.

Ahh that makes sense. This is most likely to be a hero unit but my laptop is quite lag sensitive. Just did a quick check for Polys and apparently Sketchup doesn't display polys. What it did give me is: Edges: 1468 and Faces: 660. (Progress has doubled since I took this screenshot). I'm not too sure if this is good or bad.

Hmmm. Okay. well look at it this way. Each face of a standard cube is made up of 2 triangles. Each triangle is a polygon.

If this is a hero unit you should be able to get away with at least 3k worth of polys (or maybe even higher). I mean once your converted to playable standard you could give it a try and see how it performs. My 20k Atlantis city ship plays fine, even under heavy combat and thats a single hero style unit.

Allright. I will be doing that then :) feel free to point me in the right direction if needed as the model progresses.
