Star Wars - Project: Nexus takes place shortly before the events of Star Wars Ep IV: A New Hope and tells the story of an internal power struggle between the Galactic Empire and the Tarasian Reformists, seeking to overthrow Emperor Palpatine and claim he throne for their commander, Grand Moff Taras.

As a smuggler, your primary concern is where to find your next client. As you tour the galaxy you'll be offered missions, many of which will grant you access to new weapons and abilities, in the style of many role-playing games, which will you help you in your quest to defeat the Tarasian Reformists.

Gameplay consists of exploration, puzzle solving and all-out firefights across the galaxy, which you are able to explore in a free-roaming style from the comfort of your modified YT-2000 freighter, the Cursor Eagle. Each planet is different; ranging from strictly Imperial controlled cities, to wretched, outer-rim hives of scum and villainy. You may work with any faction willing to offer you work, but continually allying yourself with a single faction may cause others to be hostile towards you.

The Force Nexuses, from which the mod takes it name, are your key to victory. They provide you with an ability to wield the force, but in order to do so you must prove yourself worthy. Force Nexuses are well hidden and will often involve trials to test your newfound skills. Force powers are not restricted to combat. On many occasions the force will aid you in reaching new locations, slipping past opposition unnoticed, or as a powerful persuasive tool.

Only through mastery of the force will you be able to defeat Taras.
