Darth Vader was the Sith title given to Anakin
Skywalker after he embraced the Dark Side on 19
BBY. The personalities were made further distinct
when Anakin suffered great wounds of both physical
and emotional nature that caused a complete change
in both his appearance and character. As Darth
Vader, Anakin became a powerful asset to the
fledgling Empire, serving as an enforcer, Jedi
hunter, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Forces,
and general Executor of Emperor Palpatine's
will.
As an agent of the Sith, Vader was a merciless
killer. He brought about the Great Jedi Purge,
personally slaying or crippling notable knights
such as Halagad Ventor and Empatojayos Brand. The
slaughter of the Jedi was widespread, but several
Force-sensitive individuals were spared. Select
agents of the Emperor were allowed to keep their
knowledge of the Force, as long as they used it as
the Emperor decreed. Others hid, as Vima-Da-Boda
did in the slums of Nar Shaddaa, or as Obi-Wan
Kenobi did in the deserts of Tatooine or as Yoda
did in the swamps of Dagobah. He once visited
Honoghr, a planet devastated by a Separatist toxin
called Trihexalophine1138. He promised the native
Noghri that the Empire would restore
Honoghr's ecosystem under the condition that
they serve the Emperor as assassins.
As Palpatine grew in political power, so too did
Vader's star rise. On Imperial Center,
formerly known as Coruscant, an immense palace was
awarded to the Dark Lord. Another such monument,
Bast Castle, existed on the distant world of Vjun.
The Emperor allowed Lord Vader to train a select
few in the Force to act as agents, such as Lord
Hethrir, Lady Lumiya and Vost Tyne.
