Bosozoku 240SX Inside the Source Engine
The car that we revealed not too long ago is now inside SHIFT and functioning. It is around 20,000 polygons and includes the highest resolution texture sheet that Source can handle. We are saving the driving demonstration for our gameplay video.
Future changes to the car include adding specular to the exhaust pipes and body, tuning suspension height, closing the spaces on car, and lowering the transparency on the windows. Stay tuned!
Podcast 17 - Why make a racing mod for Source?
The day of our 240SX reveal, the SHIFT mod received a lot of responses regarding the car choice. Most were happy with the decision and liked the car overall, while others found the exhaust not their cup of tea. Emanuel sounds off on Podcast 17 about the car and makes a good arguement towards the end that everyone should hear.
Why has the SHIFT team decided to make a racing mod for Half Life 2 when there are other racing games that can be modded? Listen to the podcast to find out the answer!
One last item we would like to point out: Emanuel claimed that while he would actually like to drive the car, our version did not have matte paint and was missing the zip ties. If you look at the car (which is now in Source) you will see that our car actually has both.

looks great, maybe add some phong shading to the car?
that's just what I was thinking, though I think that 240sx has is supposed to be matte black
So go subtle, even matte paint has diffuse highlights
Looks good in Source... nice work...
Beautiful !
The holes in the model around the door?
Sorry, that will be fixed, but no that is not the error.
That the specular is non existent?
Looks nice :D. Be better to see it in-game in gameplay :P.
The hood being slightly too high towards the front window?
And being able to see through the edges of the door?
the shadows are not cast onto the cardboard in the Third and Fourth pics
It looks awesome and now I'm even more amazed than last time.
Прикольное видео.
This mod looks amazing. I hope you consider on including a playback mod with multiple camera views (like how "Need for Speed" did. This would be great to use for machinima. Keep up the great work! :D
I can't believe that is in game :O
No texture on the exhaust?
awes0me!
Holy crap... You guys made the impossible on Source engine that many others abandonned. Gratz for your great work!
that car looks badass!! but not liking the game hud from the previous video.
Looks awesome!
That's amazing!
the hole on the right of the front bumper?
The fact that at least the front left wheel is floating above ground? And you fixed that with a piece of cardboard in the pictures.
Desperate aren't I :P
I do hate this commenting system, the right-side tires have a mirrored texture aka the text in them is mirrored. Fix would be to just mirror the uv's, but that is not what you asked now is it :P
Nice news.
This is awesome! Really nice size on the texture!
Btw, I really want that picture in the end of the video as desktop background, so either release that as a background too or stop making awesome pictures with your logo altogether so I can close my mouth and stop drooling.
