Project Valkyrie is a multiplayer first person shooter developed for the Source Engine. Players suit up in the Valkyrie suit, equipped with a powerful arm cannon integrated into the suit and the ability to morph into a sphere for faster mobility and different attack capabilities. Previously titled Three Month Mod, it was thus named for the amount of time it had taken us on the project. Three months from conception to release. Everything was done simultaneously, from pre-production concepts, to code, to mapping. Unfortunately, due to a delay with the public release of the Orange Box SDK (we couldn't release without it, even though we were already Orange Box!) our initial release had been delayed.
A visual walkthrough of the Valkyrie suit, from concept to completion
Posted by Zanboo on Dec 21st, 2007
The Valkyrie suit has gone through many iterations over the course of development. The original concepts were done by David Boyle (now employed by Pandemic Studios). Unfortunately due to his new work schedule, he was unable to provide the minute details that our model required to finish the model.
Jordan Ratzlaff took over, working from David's concepts, but ultimately they were thrown away in favor of a new design solely by Jordan.
He went into his secret underground art cave, and when he emerged...
Rashad Foux took over from there, teasing us with small previews until finally...
The model is rigged and animated by Minh "Gooseman" Le.
We will be releasing an in-game video tonight at 12 AM PST featuring a recent playtest, including footage of Woe Kitten's map, and the imported and animated player model!
Great work guy i love it, when are we releasing?:)
Looks amazing! Love the concept work. Keep up the good work. :)
very nice guys :D congrats
Nice, is there going to be a male version? Or is this XX chromos only?
Well, seeing as how the Valkyrie were females working under Odin, I'd be really surprised to find a male in there. ;)
whoa, wait... Minh Le!? Isn't he still at Valve?
no, he's not. He left about 2 years ago.
Awesomely amazing just completely awesome work ! Kudos
