Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a modification for the retail Battlefield 2 multi-player PC game. Project Reality's aim is to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Most of the aspects of Battlefield 2 that have the capacity to be modified have been tweaked, or completely overhauled, to reflect their real life counterparts, for increased realism. Ballistics have for example also been audited to reflect those of real weapons, including characteristics such as damage, deviation and bullet drop depending on a weapon systems calibre. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2 and is no longer being played online, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required and we have implemented our own online account system for online play.

Overrated! Not noob friendly.

Great concept, terrible manual, tutorials, and controls. Half the time people don't even know what they're doing. Half the time you don't even know what you're doing. Pretty much follow a bunch of other people to get killed. The bots are excellent at shooting and killing you so it gives no room for even newbies to learn. The game is made so complex that it totally destroys the gameplay. Half the time you're running around in huge maps and when you finally make it somewhere you want to check out you just end up getting shot or killed to run all the way on foot again to the same place or another place to only get shot and killed by super bots that can shoot you across the map.

Realism? LOL, not even close. I thought Red Orchestra was bad but this is worse than RO. Do you think a bunch of soldiers are really going to run around in a giant desert on foot? At least RO made sense, you got shot in the leg you slowed down to a walking pace. You got shot in the arm you couldn't hold up your gun to sight and shoot properly. I'd rather go play RO or Arma II then come back to play this mod.

The engine is showing plenty of signs of aging. The old Refraction engine is still terrible at optimizing graphics. Takes forever to load any map, QX9300 @ 3.4 Ghz + ATI 5870 + 4GB DDR2 Ram, and you'd expect older games to load quickly. Nope, old engine is craptastic even with faster hardware.

I'll wait for BF2 Free2Play and BF3.

Save yourself some bandwidth and hard drive space. My advice, wait for Project Reality's next release done in a totally different engine. Maybe it'll be polished up by then. But this mod is definitely overrated.
