I don't understand what the big deal is?

It's announcing the release date (closed beta = December 4th, 2009 for 1 week). Public release is December 11th, 2009.

A press release article will be posted tomorrow morning on the website.

And all of this is FREE. This includes registration at FilePlanet and a free public release on December 11th (everywhere - Orion's website, ModDB, and plenty of other mirrors).

^^So I don't know where all of this talk of money is coming from? But nothing money related is here.

I think it's just for publicity, right? You get to go on the FilePlanet front page or something?
Anyhow, I don't mind really, I'll just wait until it comes to ModDB though. :)
Gonna be good to play this!

Money is probably involved. If Orion is not getting paid for this, they've been cheated.

If this works as intended, Fileplanet will cash in a great deal of revenue from sponsors etc. due to the increased traffic. If all they've offered the Orion team in return is to host their mod (unlikely), then Fileplanet is going to laugh all the way down to the bank.

Yeah, honestly, this is a MOD - we're not looking to make money off of it.

However, from a personal standpoint, I want a lot of players playing the game, so this is great for publicity and hype.

Second, registration fileplanet is FREE, its not a big deal. However, if you do not wish to sign up, then just download it from ModDB. However, I tried doing this with ModDB but Dave had no interests. So take that up with him.

But servers on the other hand, are *not* free, as you undoubtly are very very aware of, as a developer. I see nothing wrong in asking for at least some sort of deal with some server payment, because I do certainly agree that they will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Hey, peace be with the whole thing, it's still beneficial for both parties. My point was simply that the Orion team possibly could've gotten more out of the deal.
Your goal is, as you've stated yourself, to get ppl playing it. Making it fileplanet exclusive, however, is not helpful in reaching that goal.

It's all negligible, though, as it's only for a week.
