This is the third installment in a series showcasing maps designed exclusively Operation Market Garden modification for Company of Heroes. Our next map, Point du Hoc, was created by Spartan 11793, one of our most dedicated mappers. It accommodates six players, and is one of our 35 exclusive maps. Its mixture of trenches, shell holes, hedgerows, and fields allows for a nerve wracking game as you work to keep coordinated with your teammates and hold off enemy attacks. Attacking through hedgerows and open fields is always a challenge; this is support weapon country that will drive you to wits end.
At Pointe du Hoc, the Germans had built, as part of the Atlantic Wall, six casements to house a battery of captured French 155mm guns. With Pointe Du Hoc situated between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east, these guns threatened Allied landings on both beaches, risking heavy casualties in the landing forces. Although there were several bombardments from the air and by naval guns, intelligence reports assumed that the fortifications were too strong, and would also require attack by ground forces. The U.S. 2nd Ranger Battalion was therefore given the task of destroying the strong point early on D-Day. This map is based off the clifftop location on the coast of Normandy in northern France.
OMG (Operation Market Garden) is a persistent multiplayer only modification. We've expanded into Opposing Fronts' factions, added new and exclusive maps, and added Tales of Valor and new unique units. We're adding deep and useful veterancy bonuses, new doctrines and an interactive war map. We put a strong emphasis on balance, community, transparency, and fun. We are currently in an open Beta, and are constantly improving, adding new OMG features and content.
