Office Shift's Future news

Hi, I'm Karn. I created this currently derelict mod called Office Shift.

I originally put up this mod page last April for motivation to complete the mod on time, which was set sometime around the fourth quarter. Since then I worked on it vigorously until the start of the summer. Unforseen consequences (half-life pun!) left me away from a computer until about a month ago.

After a year away from everything development related, I have come to grips with the fact that I just can't do this sort of thing anymore. I take on way to much and can't manage what I'm supposed to be working on. Hell, I couldn't even tell you the newest game on my PC! It's been that long since I've bought and really played one. Playing your own game or mod doesn't count in my book.

What does this mean for me and Office Shift? Easy. I'm done. I'm no longer going to work on it or contribute to it. As much as it hurts not to, I don't want to risk getting carried away back into my old developer lifestyle.

But if you didn't know this then I'll tell you now. I have a policy for everything I create: It's never dead until it's finished. If it can't be finished then it will be released in its current state. If that can't be done, then the source will be released. One way or another, everything I create will, even if it takes a decade, have some sort of closure or release.

Fortunately, with that said, I am passing the project along to someone who has always wanted it to be finished as much as I did (and still do). I will tell you that he has never taken on a full mod before on his own. But then again neither did I! I don't know how long it will take to complete but I have full confidence in the fact that he has the experience and skills needed to carry this baby to the finish line. My policy to finish everything no matter what is still in effect.

This wall of text might not mean much to some but I wanted to explain my absence and assure anyone who was interested in the mod's future that it still has one. Even though I will be taking my leave after I save this article, I'll always make sure that this mod never joins the ranks of the dead mod horde.
