Earth's average temperature dropped below -20 degrees Celsius, due to the ash limiting the sun's exposure to around 10%, thus creating a severe and harsh ice age over the whole planet, leaving lots of people under the snow, and trapped in their basements. The last place on earth that still is warm enough for human existence is now the equator...
