Kava is a brand new single player experience for Red Faction with an estimated casual playtime of 2-3 hours, putting it roughly on par with the length of the Red Faction base game. Set a short time prior to the events of the Red Faction campaign, Kava casts the player in the role of Kava Xarel - a miner and Red Faction member sent to steal weapons from a supply depot to help prepare for the upcoming revolt against Ultor.
Kava is an absolutely amazing campaign that feels like an official DLC. It even is superior to the base game in many ways. Highly suggest giving it a shot if you love Red Faction.
This is a Top content. The story is interesting and better than original Parker's story. Levels are smart, fun to play, have superb details, interesting geometry, have secrets, memes and very good voice acting. Kava is better then many commercial shooters. If You love Red Faction then immediately download and play this mod.
It's rare to see a mod rival the actual game it's based on, but Kava is so damn good it could actually serve as an expansion pack!
Not only is the level design wonderfully detailed and varied, it does a great job mixing up the gameplay without any horrible stealth sections!
However, it does drag on a bit with the vehicle sections, which is undesirably wonky but the jeep physics were never great in the base Red Faction and without a source-code to mess with there isn't much modders can do.
I sincerely hope Goober and his team of contributors have another project up their sleeve. Delivering one of the biggest Red Faction Projects in just under a year is an amazing feat!
If you're looking for a free "DLC" campaign made by fans acting as a prequel to the main story, this is what you should play.
Even though it's like a remaster of RF1 Java Mobile campaign.
Before playing this mod I didn't even know mods for RF were a thing, I was pleasantly surprised. A nice polished mod that is as fun to play as the OG.
Pros:
- Lots of classic RF action.
- Innovative levels.
- Great soundtrack.
- Good length for a mod.
- Secrets were cool.
Cons:
- The jeep tries to do a barrel roll every time you hit a small bump.
- Isn't always clear how to proceed in the level.
- Not much use of GeoMod.
