Israeli Defense Force: Fight for Independence is a Total Conversion modification for the PC game Battlefield 2 (A.K.A. BF2). What we aim to achieve with this mod is to immerse the player into the historic wars involving Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, which are the 6-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War. The player will be able to play as a common soldier, crewmember, or pilot in these wars. The mod will feature historically accurate equipment such as the famous Russian AK-47, the fearsome SO-4050 bomber, the menacing IS3 and M48 tanks, and much, much more. Also, the maps will recreate actual battles that happened in these wars, to complete a historically-accurate and immersive modification. IDF:FFI is also a member of the acclaimed cooperative gaming studio Black Sand Studios.
The BTR-40 (Bronetransporter, literally "armoured transporter") is a Soviet non-amphibious, wheeled armoured personnel carrier and reconnaissance vehicle. It is also the first mass-produced Soviet APC.
The APC variant has no permanent armament but the BTR-40A is heavily armed, with twin ZPTU-2 14.5 mm twin anti-aircraft gun in a specail turret, later also used in the BTR-152A, manually operated by a single soldier. The turret is placed inside the troop compartment. It can make a full turn and its guns can elevate between -5 and +80 degrees.
It was widely used by the Arab armies from the 1950's up until recently. Illness88 did a great job with creating the texture and model for the new ZPTU-2 turret and doing the research to make a historical accurate and beautiful texture. We show here the Syrian BTR-40A in its camouflage of tan and grey over Soviet dark green. This is the first Syrian land vehicle we are showing you. We have many, many more to come after this!
what a beautifull camo !
Every time I look at the Arab arsenal and then history, only one thought comes into my mind:
How, do you f*ck that up?
The Arab armies fought much better in the Yom Kippur War. I think they had poor leadership and planning in the other conflicts.

Will you be including the BTR-152A as welll? that could carry a squad of soldiers as well as the ZPTU-2
Yeah we will have the Btr-152a as well. It used the exact same turret as the btr-40a. We also may include a quad mount dshk turret.

Very nice collection of BTR-152 photos. Here is the photo of the quad mount dshk on a BTR-152.
