Lots of pretty content and everything, but how do the cars handle? The video does not look very promising in that regard.

well unfortunately we can't switch to the orangebox engine due to the fact that it'll be a big stepback and would probably delay the mod a lot more, and yes for some reason the subaru doesn't seem to bounce enough it just may be the physical constraints on the model of the car, btw i had to lower the quality on pretty much everything due to the fact that i had to record it through fraps... in game it's much nicer, there's real reflection maps on all the cars, and yeah i should have put in a clip to show handling but i forgot to lol oh well sorry about that.

use "wegame" for source instead of fraps if you want to record.

Question being:

Do you want a fast release?
Or do you want a GOOD release?

Orange Box engine has very good motion blur (which you need), handles reflections much better (which you need), and, if I'm not mistaken, the vehicle code is a big improvement there also. Which, judging by this video, you kinda need. :-\ I don't see a reason NOT to move to Orange Box engine if you want a high-quality mod. Isn't it still Source Engine? Your code won't be THAT incompatible, if at all.

Decent HUD work.

Honestly I think LaDouche has got it nailed. Listen to that guy carefully.

And pleeeaaasssee use good grammar when you are NOT mad? I know you want to be serious when talking to a guy with little to no argument behind him but take it in stride, and use your capitals always! ;p

You know that's not really a very descriptive comment, if your joking then please say you are, if not then please do not go around insulting this mod dev team, by leaving rude comments everywhere. Otherwise i will be forced to remove them my self.

If you did not like something please either justify yourself accordingly and try not to act immature by leaving random insulting comments. I understand that some people will leave negative and positive comments depending on the content and their own personal dislikes and likes, but please if you do not like something please justify what it is you do not like and why. I take everyone's feedback seriously and I build the game from it based on the public's critique.

Your comment "guys this game is ugly, sound sucks and the gameplay sucks no one is going to play this!" does not help in anyway, as well as I find it offensive.

Thank you.

Like other guys said - this mod needs a lot more work. Idea is good, and the sole fact that you guys managed to get so far as to release a video shows some promise. But guys, HL2 engine uses Havok physics and seems to be handling it very good, however no phyisics usage was apparent in this video, cars should at least'bounce' when they hit a wall... Best of luck on your project!

Honestly this mod needs some intense work on the physics, looks about as simple as Big Rigs physics. The car models look very bland and your courses look too tight if you know what I mean.

I know its a bit early to be judging it but you should really think about these things and take them into account. Take advantage of whats offered of the Source Engine.

well i really dont like this game as the video is showing...reason is because there are already Racing games which show more info more car colors and all the tune ups...Like umm NEed for speed...Forza 2... and others...so pretty much this game would feel the same as those other racing games me myself would not be a game i would be playing in a mod.

comparing a mod which is a usermade peice of software (not industry professionals with budgets and about 30-50 people working on the damn thing)to a professional game is just a retarded thing to do mate. Yeah sure they have a lot of work to do but in the end there is no need to say that. If anything compare the mod to other mods, that way they are at leased in the same area.

now back to the topic at hand, HL2 is going to be difficult for racing, just check out how many bugs DIPRIP had, your going to have to make a theme as someone suggested to keep people playing.

A few suggestions I have while watching your gameplay video
* Focus on a racing style of gameplay
* Consistent cars, develop a consistent style of car. When you have abunch of cars that aren't consistent and just look like random models put in, it looks bad.
* Create some kind of common theme with your game, I think it's a great idea to finaly develop a racing game for Hl2 but you need a consistent theme. Use the same style textures, same style mapping, etc.
* Use first person while driving as it would be alot easier to drive. Hl2 third person driving doesn't seem like it would be very comfortable and I suggest trying a first person view.

VGTeam May 9 2008, 11:22pm replied:

actually about their being first person views and thirperson it is toggable to drive in either mode by one button, so there are many options for each player to tailor the game to their own persona. I personally like thrid person view which is why i drove like that lol. As for their being more cars yes well i do need some modeling help so any modelers willing to help us out and compile some cars and rig some already made models, please contact us immidiately! we only have about 16 cars working in the game so far we haven't shown them all yet of course lol. but yeah.

I think this game has some promise to it and I'm gonna down it and try it out, but it just seems to a 2nd generation of HL Rally with the source engine behind it.

What was that weird sound for the first minute or so?

Also, as people have said, the handling looks weird. When turning it doesn't look like the car is moving around four wheels, but around a central pivot point; as well as the turning being too 'spontaneous'. Perhaps simply put, it looks too much like the movement in a first person shooter. And if it looks that way..?

I would suggest that you need to work on the orange box source engine version. It has blur support and all the other stuff which makes it optimized for big outdoors. If you do so, i will be glad to map for the mod :D
And by the way keep up the good work.
