heXen:Edge of Chaos will be a new and free game, based on the original Hexen game which was developed by id Software and Raven Software. Edge of Chaos is being developed by a team of fans who have always loved the original Hexen since it came out. In fact, most of us spent countless hours with the entire series. When id Software released Doom3, we immediately saw immense potential in the engine itself; the 'Hell' maps gave us the inspiration to make a hack-and-slash game based, primarily, on the original Hexen.

Looks great, feeling just like classic Hexen in a modern modding world. I agree with dave on the sounds bit though, they need to get a beef-up. Keep it up!

I know, but i dont own an original version of doom3, dunno if it works with a cracked copy...
you should get it on steam when the id pack is on sale again :)

Looks great! love the old sounds! needs a little touch on the animations, slower maybe to accentuate the weight of the weapon?
Q: Any chance of killing the monsters without them gibbing into tiny bits?
We adjusted some of how the jibs look. As far as making it an option, it's not on our short- or medium- term goals of what we plan to do for next release.
Looks more like Hexen II than Hexen: Beyond Heretic IMO. Good job overall, but please make death animations (and sounds) for ettins because those bloody clouds spoil the feel of the game. It's not Quake 3 and even there were corpses.
gibs over dead corpses is a performance thing over anything else. Dead bodies laying around in this engine causes severe performance issues.
OK I forgot it is id tech 4, but why not use the same burning effect (or maybe modified a bit) as in Doom 3? And who have such a weak computer to play on nowadays anyway? Even notebooks with something like Mobility Radeon 5650 (I have one) can easily run Doom3 on ultra-high at any common resolution. Well I haven't tested it actually, but I don't see any reasons this shouldn't be true. At least you can make an option what to show: blood clouds, disappearing corpses, permanent corpses.

Are you guys going to take advantage the iD Tech 4 source code when iD release it soon?
We are currently finding out if we would legally be allowed to do so. Hopefully we'll have firm information for everyone in the next several weeks.
