The friendly folks at GhostRecon.net did an interview with me about my Heroes Unleashed mod. I had a chance to talk about how this project got started and where it is headed, and I could also share some of my thoughts on the evolution of the tactical shooter genre.
Read the GhostRecon.net interview here. I always appreciate feedback, so let me know what you think.
You know what? I play ARMA myself, and I agree with everything you said about GR being the King of tactical shooters.
I disagree, I love GR but Arma II is still far more tactical simply due to the sheer scale of it. I think the interview would have been better if he kept his discussion from other tactical shooters, and simply discussed the mindless ones like CoD.
ARMA 2 is a better medium to very long range tactical shooter. GR on the other hand is better at short to long range. Currently ARMA 2 is clumsy at short range battles, and in most cases you have to depend on your pistol when in tight spaces. In Ghost Recon this is not the case.
Don't worry though as ARMA 3 seems to be a much better game, and that clumsiness that you usually have when its time to make quick actions (movements) has been improved. Also the vehicle physics have been made more realistic.
Please don't get me wrong, I am very glad ArmA exists, as it is one of the few current games with realistic tactical shooter elements out there. But it completely fails to capture me because e.g. overall character and game control just feel far too cumbersome and squarely stand in the way of immersion.
''but I simply cannot relate to the later titles in the franchise at all, as they have lost everything that made Ghost Recon so special in my eyes.'' - im with you 100% there. ''There are no invisibility cloaks, either.....Because there hasn't been another game like Ghost Recon ever since. Not... even... close...!'' - Amen
Great interview, interesting read thanks for the post bud.
