Hey everyone. This update took a bit longer than usual, But hopefully you all will understand why! Marco and I decided to take some time off of Outcast to work on an entry for MapLabs Operation FORCC. As of writing this, the competition is not yet released, but it shouldn’t be too much longer until it is. Here’s a few screenshots of our submission, Calaubi Yau Model. Watch out for the sand while playing this.. theres rumors of a "Sand Barnacle".
Be sure to play Operation FORCC once it releases! There are some seriously great maps there, and it was an absolute blast working on our entry. Now, onto the new changes in Outcast.
I spent a lot of time this month working on the Rebel/Scavenger camp, as well as several new/updated designs. Firstly, I would like to show off the new Wasteland Citizen. This is a modified version of the citizens retail texture sheet, and is mostly based off of the model of Samuel from the HL2 2003 Leak.
I aimed to give them a very dirty look, as though they had been out here for a while. I imagine that some citizens would rather risk living out in the deadly Wasteland, perhaps some with their families than live under the rule of the Combine in their cities, where they would most likely be separated permanently. Living out in the Wasteland means.. at least you have some freedoms!
I mentioned the wasteland scavengers having children. Marco and I came to the conclusion that since this mod is based 10 years after the black mesa incident, it would be reasonable for there to still be children. In the case of the Scavengers Camp, there will be a few children there. These models for Outcast contain modified textures, custom animations, collisions, and I even went ahead and created a new head model, to add more variety to the model set. Here are some images
And our new model-
And since headcrabs are cold hearted, evil bastards, here is the new child zombie variant.
I also began working on the map for the rebel camp. It is a very run down place, having been assembled from various scrap metal and junked vehicles that could be located around the area. You can also spot some new models for this area including the leech drying rack and grill model.
One more small thing I worked on was testing custom water. Here’s some antlion juice!
One of the last things I worked on was the prologue. The prologue will have multiple parts, and I will show a screenshot that is from the beginning of the map.
And finally, I will share a screenshot of the new menu, as well as our “official” intro video that I made.
Well, that about wraps it up for this month. Hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit of what’s been happening, and know we have much more we are working on behind the scenes that we are waiting to show off. As always, if you have any feedback I can be reached on Discord at Zapagoogas#9716 or you can come join us in the discord at Discord.gg. We also have a twitter now, it is linked with our page and should be visible on the right. See ya next month!

okay the child zombie might be a step to far
yeah because headcrabs would just ignore children for no reason at all, right?
No, the child zombie is actually a very good adition, it truly shows the horror of the parasitic monsters hiding in the wasteland and transforming men and child into zombies, the wasteland isn't safe, and there is no reason for it to be safe.
Hello, one of the devs here.
Well, there is something much darker than this and that is real life, we believe that if someone can endure a day in real life they can play outcast without any problem.
Seriously now, Zapa and I want to make a really cruel world and you should definitely expect more stuff like this.
We are not going to do cruel things just for the sake of adding them but we are not going to hold back if we think it adds to the story and worldbuilding.
The wasteland child is a controversial decision for obvious reasons. But I do not think it is too far. The world of outcast is a dark one, the wasteland is an evil place full of terrible things that happen daily. Children play an important role in outcasts rebel camps, so it would be very obvious they would be affected by the headcrabs. We are not going to throw zombie children at you and go “Now, blast away!” No. They will serve there roles in the story and will be used when their impact would best suited the story. Remember, the child zombie will make up only a small percentage of the new enemies we have planned.
Have you ever played NMRiH? They have zm kids too - specially a runner one.
No free TV for you.
Awesome, but you'd think wasteland citizen clothes would look a bit more.... rough(?) since they aren't really supposed to be there (as far as i know)
Really looking forward to this.
Certainly, this is only a work in progress
Ok cool, really interested to see the final version.
the zombie child just goes to show you nature's cruelty and lack of mercy for even the youngest and most vulnerable. can't wait to see the sand barnacles in action though, that thing always intrigued me.
Oh no child zombie from minecraft
Damn, reminds me of the zombie kids from No More Room in Hell D:
Also, one thing... what's up with the dark-skinned child in the wasteland playground image? The model looks fine but the lighting seems... broken?
might be just me, actually.
your modification uses Raising the bar Redux as the basis
NOPE!
No, all of our code and assets are created by me. Our code base is built from Mapbase
a child zombie hahah gnarly, i love it!
