Final Fantasy Tactics: Rebirth (FFT: Rebirth) is a modification for Final Fantasy Tactics which features a rebalancing of almost everything in the game, in particular classes but also items, abilities, characters, random encounters, and storyline battles. The modification also features a few new graphics and a complete overhaul of the speed system. This mod caters to an audience already familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics - those who wish that some of the weaker classes were better balanced and want some new interesting and refreshing encounters.

This mod truly gives some extra kick to a game that was incredibly addictive, but suffered from some things that the modders change (such as the obsoletion of classes). The game is now much more of a "tactical" one, which I think is good for it. I'd still beat it the first time through in the vanilla version, but this one should definitely be done afterwards.

So far, the encounters have been epic and difficult without being some pure power play. It's also clear that they spent a lot of time mulling over how to make each class relevant. You reap the rewards of leveling up characters towards their end-level classes, but don't lose the utility of the ones before, which is a great great improvement. Also, I don't want to spoil anything, but crazy things happen with the encounters.

Finally I'm able to play this game fully tweaked and given the difficulty that adds more accomplishment. It used to be that many of the early battles were some of the hardest, now the progression is smooth and all the more satisfying.

Apparently these guys added tweaks to every single battle, even all of the deep dungeon. It's a worthy mod and the type that makes you never want to play the vanilla version again (though, I'd argue that they'd be making huge strides by simply making chakra having a vertical element...oh, and they did, by the way).

Also, the color changes for the classes are interesting and make it refreshing. The game just looks great (Ramza looks killer awesome throughout the acts). Plus, it installs like a piece of cake. Just one straight .exe and boom. You're in.

So, I give this mod a 10. It goes in to make a great game better, and it does that in a ridiculously comprehensive way (I'd like for these guys to balance factions/AI on anything, they'd kill it--the sheer speed growth changes are incredible for balancing. They even thanked a mathematics guy on the credits...). I won't be going back to the vanilla version anytime soon. Definitely worth the DL.
