Most people say their mods are going to be revolutionary or will be something great. Most mods now a days promise everything, and swear that it will be the best mod. Most mods it seems are just mere knockoffs of other great mods, or are Counterstrike clones. We used to be one of those mods. The bad thing about being a gamer in general is that you play one game that everyone likes, and then there are suddenly a million different incarnations of the same thing. Originally, we were setting out to create a remake of Quake. Sure, it sounds like a good idea, and would probably be pretty fun, but we quickly realized that if we were going to get anywhere with this thing, we'd have to make it our own. Shortly afterwards, Epicenter was born. At that point our mantra was basically "Quake...but better". I wanted every concept to have the feel of Quake, to have that grit and that character. Two blows to the project today...it seems that the mod Edge-DM was originally known as Quake:Source...so this "original project" isn't as original as I once thought it was (of course, they were only covering the DeathMatch portion of Q2 and Q3).

That was the minor blow.

As it turns out, the reason behind their name change was the fact that Todd Hollenshead, one of my personal idols and the CEO of iD Games, sent them a nice email notifying them of the fact that they were infringing the copyrights of iD.

Here's what it comes down to:

* IF I get the same email, I will fully cooperate with iD.
* There will be a name change, but not so much of a content change.
* There will be no real content change because a lot of the content is BASED on Quake. We're redoing everything. Levels, Maps, Textures, Sounds, Weapons, Etcetera.

I've been afraid it might come down to this...but if it does, it won't be the end of the project by any means. I'm doing this project in homage to the greatness that was Quake (hell, I've been playing that more than Half-Life 2 recently).

Oh well, let it come if it comes...but it won't die.
