I have problems to install the original game Thread - Elite Force: Graphic Overhaul Project mod for Star Trek: Elite Force

UPDATE: Elite Force was re-released on GOG in 2021 and updated to run on modern systems. If you want to use your original CDs nevertheless and have trouble check the tips below.

Installation of the original game

Elite Force should run fine on all Windows versions 32/64 Bit. But the autorun function will not work any longer. For the installation you have to right click open the CD and run the installer exe from inside the "Setup" Folder!!! manually.

1. Open the disc.
2. Go into the folder "Setup".
3. Find the setup.exe, right click on it and choose the Windows 2000 compatibly mode and check the box "run as administrator".
4. Run the setup.exe from the "Setup” folder with these settings. Be patient, it can take some minutes until the installer will start the procedure.
5. If this is not working for you: try another compatibly mode (Windows XP) or copy all the content from the CD and try it again from your hard drive.
6. If this is still not working for you: there is hope! Elite Force doesn’t care about registry entries. It’s portable and will also run if you copy and paste an installation from another system. So...try it on another system.
7. Perform the same procedure with the Expansion Pack.
8. After installation navigate to your main directory where the game executables are locateed. Right click on each (stvoy.exe and stvoyHM.exe) and choose under "compatibly" the "start as adminstrator" option (otherwise the game will start but can’t save settings).
9. If you cannot start the single player it probably goes back to the missing copy protection drivers, which were permanently removed from every Windows version back to Vista by Microsoft, due to security issues. Use the Quake3.exe instead, that comes with my mod to launch the game. I think if you do not have the Expansion Pack I think you need to install the 1.20 Patch before.

Make sure to deactivate all programms or Antivirus engines which could block the installation process.

Tried it last time on Windows 10 / 64 Bit, fully updated, March 2023...and it works.

Another note from the comments:

Just as a note, I posted this elsewhere on the forum, but your PC's Windows scailing (Windows Settings - Display - Scale and Layout), affects the game. So it needs to be set to 100% (and not 125% or 150%). Might be worth adding to your installation guide.
