Battleground 44 is inspired by and aims to be a modern HD reimagining of the 2002 classic PC game BF1942. The mod will feature more classes than the original game had, and will also aim to do away with unrealistic historically incorrect equipment. No longer will British use American weapons and vehicles. Japanese will also no longer be stuck to using German equipment and weapons. All factions will be using historically authentic equipment, weapons and vehicles.

Today we just wanted to show off some work in progress gameplay of the mod, and give everybody an update on how far along in development we are. It has been too long since the last update, and we feel horrible about not updating the news but rest assured we have still worked heavily on the mod especially during the Covid lockdown. We are somewhere around 90-95% complete with the mod and all the content. Mostly right now we are focused on polishing everything and adding a few more missing content here and there. But we are in the home stretch and closer to release than ever before!

In July of this year I was contacted by a YouTuber by the name of The_Igromator who records gameplay reviews of Battlefield 2 mods in the Russian community. I was telling him I needed somebody good to record much needed gameplay for the fans, and he obliged. What you will see below is an older build from a few months back. Since that time we have added and updated over 50 new vehicles, fixed up the dated tank sights with more HD ones similar to what you will see from the T-34 and updated vehicle handling on older content. All of our vehicles will have updated 3p cameras as well unlike what you see on the KV2 and T-26.

Some of the weapons you will see are obvious placeholders, such as that Federov Avtomat with historically inaccurate sights. That weapon as well as some others are being worked on and replaced very soon with better HD models and animations. We are also in the process of getting all new HD player models rigged and added to the game. We are also adding Italians to the mod as well, but so far we have Soviets, Germans, British, Americans, Chinese and Japanese forces in the mod.

But that being said, please understand this is only a slice of gameplay. Unfortunately the video creator did not get around to show off the other factions during this video, but he already recorded over 30 minutes of gameplay so that is very understandable since the video was already very long and in depth with great constructive feedback. If everything goes according to plans, I want to look into hosting a dedicated server or 2 someplace. It was always my plan to get multiplayer supported, while still supporting singleplayer fully as well.

Also, if anybody out there knows of any people with navmeshing skills please send them our way. I have asked people repeatedly but they seem to not have any time. We have most of the maps fully supporting singleplayer, but some do need to have the navmesh updated, as well as some completely lacking it. I would say 95% of the maps in the mod fully support bots however. And we have over 70 maps at the moment.

Well, PR is very strict on what the requirements are for their game. They have to scale back a lot of textures to get all the content they have in game running smooth. We are going more for HD visuals and pushing the game engine to the limits without breaking. It is just 2 different philosophies each of our teams has. We do share content with PR though, in fact we did do the Sherman and M10 Tank Destroyer that is in PR:WW2. So we do help them out as much as possible where we can.

In fact, since we shared 2 tanks with them they allowed us to use their WW2 maps in the mod, so we do have those in it with full singleplayer support. So if your dream is to use our content on the PR maps, don't worry, you are getting that wish! Also, I am sure you can tell we are also using PR animations. So that is another area where we are trying to combine their beautiful AAA animations with super HD quality weapon models to show how well they compliment each other. BF2 still has a lot of life left in it, and we are trying to push it as far as possible for 2020 expectations.

Close to 100. There are already over 70 maps now. And that is not counting the layers for maps too.
