BATTLE FOR ELEMENTS

Global changes:
- All monsters and areas were extensively rebalanced!
- Adjusted difficulty settings, which result in an easier Normal difficulty, a slightly more difficult Nightmare difficulty, and a more challenging Hell difficulty.
- New Act I storyline! Look for tons of new items, monsters, and NPC monologues. Look for the special "++++++!!!++++++" signs in the beginning of monologues, and note also
the gold color of the texts.
- New "Friendly Fire" doctrine. Now we have different FF skills on different game difficulties. Refer to 'Difficulty Modes & Friendly Fire.doc/pdf' for an explanation.
- 3DFX Glide video mode was added: Run D2VidTst.exe in root D2 folder, press "Run Test", and choose the 3dfx mods from the list after all tests were performed.
Please note that the colors of some items, ambient light in some locations, and other such things were optimized for this video mode.
If you don't like this video mode, you can change some parameters with gl32oglinit.exe or even run D2VidTst.exe one more time and return to your preferred mode.
New features:
- Enlarged item graphics! Look for the "Right click for additional information" string on items. I began to add enlarged images for some items, but it is hard and long work,
so every new version of the mod will contain several such images. Great thanks to Necrolis for coding this feature!
- No more VBS script! Now we have an EXE file to launch the mod. Thanks to Werdn for coding and to Ice_Instinct for the background art! :)
- Some User Interface elements were changed.
- "Rescue Deckard Cain" (A1Q4) quest reward on Normal difficulty was changed. Akara gives two rare rings, Ancient Key, and standard ruby now.
- 24 new monsters (7 unique)
- 21 new locations (by Cubaholic)
- New modifiers for runes, which means that all runewords have been changed as well.
- New soundtrack for "The Ancient Vault" location by Tony Flex.
- New Horadric Hypercube animation.
- Recipes for enabling/disabling death counter on your Talisman (See 'Cube Recipes.doc/pdf').
Balance:
- Act 3 Cold mercenaries use Ice Blast instead of Frost Nova.
- Chance for gold drop was reduced, but its quantity was increased.
- Chance for drop of Regurgitator blood was increased.
- Some properties of "Safety" crafted items were nerfed.
- Potions of Resistance depend on character level now.
- Sentinel of Light (one-hit-kill monster in the Spider Cavern) was removed because the contest was won.
- Level of Firebolt retaliation from Goatmen was reduced from 5 to 4.
- Gargoyle’s Thorns aura strength was reduced on Normal difficulty.
- The Smith was weakened.
- Increased chance of exceptional items while gambling on Nightmare difficulty.
- Some statistical caps were raised.
- Multiple Shot has more arrows/bolts now.
- Chance to drop mana and healing potions was reduced (excepting drops from champions).
- Level requirement for Nature's Peace was reduced; properties of Bul Kathos Wedding Band were improved.
- Drop chance for runes was boosted.
- Drop quality from sparkling chests was boosted.
Bug fixes:
- Fess' Marching Clothes set charm properties correspond to appropriate set bonuses now.
- Perspective for Tristram map was disabled.
- Day/night cycle in some dungeons was removed.
- Some animation modes for mercenaries were fixed.
- Favorite Talisman upgrading recipes using 10 Emotions and 10 Cells were changed to prevent one-HP bug when characters level up.
- Mystery Potions are not beltable anymore.
- Quest drop for Diablo was fixed.
- Range of Exotic weapons were fixed.
- Thorns, poison, and open wounds will now cause "on-death" events. So if you used Thorns to kill a monster, which must die in order to open a portal, then upon death the portal will now open.
- 32k HP character cap was removed.
- Some bugged Mystery Potions were replaced.
- Some in-game texts were edited (great thanks to Myrmidon for my-pidgin-to-common-English translation).
New contest:
- As usual, we have a new contest included in new mod version. :) In two words: SEARCH for TREASURE!!!
How to install:
Do the following two steps only if you have any older BFE versions installed:
1. Remove all previous versions of BFE completely, while retaining the default Diablo II program files/folder. Note: pre-1.50 saved characters and shared stash are not transferable.
2. Ensure that the existing _LOD_HC_SharedStashSave_.sss and _LOD_SharedStashSave.sss files have been removed from the ./Save/BFE/ folder.
The following step is required:
3. Run BFE1.50setup.exe and follow the installation instructions.

Sorry, but I don't understand your problem.
If someone could help me with launching this mod, I'd be grateful. I know this is probably simple, but I have downloaded this mod and installed it. Now when I click on the BFE.exe to start up the launcher, it comes up. I configured it to where it launches from the BFE folder, but now it says: Cannot create file "C\Program Files\Copy of Diablo II\BFE\PlugY\PlugYDefault.ini." The system cannot find the path specified. Anyone help? Thanks.
Misterman, what OS you have installed?
I have Windows XP installed. I believe I saved it in the copy of diablo II I made. Didn't do anything with the PlugY.bak folder.
Did you tried to move installed mod to somewhere manually? Or may be messed with "PlugY" folder?
the only poblem i have is this popup that wont let me play. UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: ACCESS_VIOLATION (c0000005)
and i have a clean version of diablo 2. any ideas?
Mod is for patch 1.10
I just reinstalled it into the Program Files. Now I start it up, it says: Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Game.exe'. After that, it says Can't run Diablo II!\nCheck Config.
I dunno how you can install mod in wrong way, but try reinstall mod and when installer asks you where you want to install mod, don't change install path or, at least, don't remove "BFE" folder from install path.
Also, "Change game path" option in launcher's config is path to "game.exe".
wtf no one has 1.10 anymore.
All right, just did, I did not change the install path before or after, and I did not rename it, just like last time. I'll do that last bit you told me and see how it turns out.
Still giving me that Cannot find Game.exe. I did not change anything when I installed it, nor did I mess with any data. I installed it into my program files, and into the bfe folder ("C:\Program Files\BFE") just like it told me. Apparently, there's no file called "Game.exe" in the folder, do I have to put one in there or..?
No. You just need to tell mod where you have D2 installed. "Game.exe" is main execute file of D2 and I haven't right to distribute this file. This file is in D2 root folder. Just choose it.
All right, gonna' reinstall it again. Tell me if I'm wrong, I'm going to install it like this: "C:\Program Files\BFE". I'll configure it to where it'll start in the Diablo 2 folder and game.exe. Hope it works..I'll check throughout the day.
Wow, it was really that simple. (works now). Just had reinstalled it, launched the game, configured it to the copy of diablo 2 and game.exe. It ran. Weird though, I did it before? Well anyway, thanks for all your help, looks like a great game and will likely keep me busy for a very long time. Hope I didn't keep you too busy >.<
One more thing, if someone could send me a PM for this so I don't spoil it, I need a bit of help with Andariel, I've had a hunch where it is, and I tried it twice: no luck. Can someone give me a better hint as to where it is? I have the sphere now, just don't want to waste it again.
i have a question! is this ubuntu compatable? how does it work with D2 do you need to wine D2/LOD then install this or is this a seperate game?
When you install BFE, it's a separate folder. And no, you don't have to beat diablo 2/LoD to install it. As for ubuntu, I'd say no but I'm not sure.
so it is only 105 MB i need to get NOTHING else to play it...???
EIDT: and is there a specific linux launcher or do i have to WINE it or something?
You need have D2:LoD patch 1.10 installed to launch BFE. There is no specific linux launcher, so you just need run it under wine.
hi,was wondering if someone can help me. i got the mod installed and it loads but im getting a diablo 2 error when i try and load my character. the error says Assertion Failure location:D2Common\DATATBLS\Datatbls.cpp,line #227 expression : pbData
i have no close what that means but would be really greatful if someone did know and could help me through it.thank you

Hi im a new member and i wanted to know about the battle for elements mod. I can get to the char list and when i click on my char it tells me ( assertion failure location : d2common/datatbls/datatbls.cpp,line #2227/ expression : pbdata )
If any onw knows how to fix or help me out that would be great
this doesnt make any sense i downloaded this mod and i have the d2 lod installed with the patch 1.10 and i changed the config to game exe and tried to load the game but nothing comes up when i click on easy
no new skills ??? well that makes it a bit boring, diablo is based on skills the olds ones with new gameplay wont make it more interesting for me, but sorry if i sounded rude, i just gave an opinion, though very nice graphics. and a very well done job, compared to other mods so far you have the most graphicly enhanced. :) have Fun

Oh now i see! You need patch 1.10. Awww this sucks. This mod seriously need to upgrade to patch 1.12. because, i don't wanna reinstall everything just to play this mod! I want to be able to play online you know!
Sorry for the tripple post but, This computer sucks and it's really hard to actually do anything right here. So heres the thing, Why is this mod for patch 1.10??? First of all nobody plays on patch 1.10 anymore. That patch is ancient and for the second if we wanna play online we need to have eather patch 1.11b or patch 1.12 or else we can only play on the old servers and those are rare as hell. Also if you now have patch 1.12 or whatever patch that means you'll have to REINSTALL diablo 2 just to play this mod! so why in the world should i do that? Just the play THIS mod only? Please. Upgrade to patch 1.12 or patch 1.11b and make this mod 1.12 or 1.11b capable.

I cannot run the mod, it tells me "invalid game path, it may not be diablo 2", I go to configuration and click change path to see if I can fix the problem but the button does nothing at all. I am using version 1.10 of diablo 2 lord of destruction and playing it on windows 7. please help me thank you
