Need Help Thread - Back to the Future: Hill Valley mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Hey guys, I just got VC in the mail today. Installed, did everything right. Now I can't do anything with the BTTF mod installer since it's write protected. I can't open the gta3.img with any image tools or anything. Whenever I try to get everything unread-only I get a "access denied" message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to your rockstar folder in your "C:programs" file folder, right click on it. select the read only check so it disappears, then select "apply" then "ok".
make sure you don't have the img tool running when you do this, open it after.

check your PM upper left on this page.

I did exactly as you said, but I get a ACCESS DENIED thing.

can you post a screen shot of it.

Gotta reinstall the game, but I'll describe it as best as I can.

Uncheck Read-Only [only the green checkmark is a green box]
Hit Apply
All folders/files
Cannot blahblahblah gtavicecity.exe

ok, i'm not sure what "green box", but I'll post a little tutorial for you give me a minute.

I see what you're talking about with the green button, I canged my desktop properties and had forgot what the pold one looked like. anyways.
let me make sure this is what your doing
click the green button, click apply,then it asks you if you want to apply these changes to this folder, subfolders and files, you click "ok"
then the error appears.

That's exactly what happens.

one more Question
After installing VC then you ran 0.2a then 0.2 b and now we are at the troublesome spot of unchecking the read only. so you can install the cars.

Well, thing is, whenever I try to run .02a i get a "One or more files are write protected" message.

Here a thought try just undoing the read only on just the models folder, inside the vice city folder.

thats weird maybe that 0.2a file is bad/corrupt, have you downloaded more than just that one?

I really don't know what to say, everything that you have told me is correct, I'll do some searching right now for others with this problem and see if I can't find an answer on the web.

Maybe mine is jst somehow...Locked up.

I don't think there's a solution to this. This sh*t sucks. Hard. Arn't all versions of VC moddable? C'mon, I bought this just for this mod. Maybe it's happening because my dad is the admin of the laptop and I don't have admin abilities...

That might be it because I haven't heard of this problem before. creat a new user account making you the administrator.
