The Sound Mod replaces all War Thunder Ground Vehicles sounds that are perhaps lacking with something more Immersive

Post news Report RSS Historical German 88mm sound

Been almost a year since I touched the 88mm sound, and I hopefully learnt afew more tricks since then, so an update is only fair.

After hearing Battlefield 1 put to shame 90% of games iv ever heard, I thought it would be a good idea to use that as inspiration to completely go over the entire mod again. Especially as i started this mod as a Immersive cannon sound mod, iv sort of shifted focus on engines lately, so i will revert back to Cannons/Guns sounds again.

The place to start would be with the staple of any WW2 tank game, the German 88's.

Both the kwk36 and Kwk43 will have this sound, im not sure whether to differentiate them as im fairly satisfied with the improvement as it stands and not certain on which direction i would take a KwK43 variant as there are no sources I can relate to.

So the actual sound is taken from live firing flak36 88mm. But because most camera's mics dont pic up most of the dynamic range the cannon produces, I have had to source the bass thump that shifts the air in the speakers from a professional source and added it underneath.

As long as Gaijin doesnt pull some weird and wonderfull, i should be able to release it next patch. along with a few other updated Cannon sounds

Hey Boris! Love the new 88 sound. I have an idea as to how you can differentiate the sounds of the KwK-36 and the KwK-43.

I learned that higher-velocity guns make more of a sharp "crack" noise, even if they are large caliber like a 120mm. The lower-velocity guns give off a bigger "thud." If this is true, you could give the KwK-36 more of a slight "thud" due to its lower velocity than the KwK-43, which you can give a sharper "crack" sound. If this is possible, I think you could do it. :D

I believe in you and thank you so much for all your hard work. I dunno how you keep doing all this for no reward other than appreciation, but believe me, there is a LOT of appreciation. (:
