Ancient Kings is a mod to famed Crusader Kings II, providing players the opportunity to go back to the violent times of Antiquity. The mod takes place between Battle of Ipsus (301 BC), which saw the final dissolution of Alexander the Great's empire, as far as to 610 AD, when Emperor Heraclius got rid of the last remnant of old Roman Empire - official Latin. The mod will offer varied gameplay, allowing players to take role of Roman consuls during Third Roman-Samnite war or one of the diadochi on their quest to resurrect Alexander's empire, to pick sides in Carthage's and Rome's conflict during Second Punic War, to fight as one of the tribes during Ceasar's subjugation of Gaul or to choose to support either Mark Antony or Octavian Augustus during the Final War of the Roman Republic. The mod is currently WIP, but I try to improve its state regularly, while also providing that it's as realistic and historically accurate as it can be.

Hello, AK's fans and subscribers.

2016 is coming to an end and the deadline established by myself draws dangerously close. IT is time then for me to explain why AK will not be released on 31th December 2016.

As some of you probably know, modding CK2 is something that I do in my spare time while focusing mostly on my studies. This year has been particularily tough with lots of unexpected events that needed my attention, as well as lots of stress and pressure to get everything straight. As a result, since September I had very little time to spare on modding, and I spent most of it loading my batteries anyway.

These past months have been pretty intense for me and thus the progress I made in developing the mod is... unsatisfactory, to say the least. The progress is incomparably small to what I planned to achieve by the end of the year. I am disappointed about this turn of events probably as much as or even more than you. Believe me that if I it was up to me, I'd love to have kept on schedule and prepare to release the mod on planned date.

As regards to what now... That remains to be seen. The failure of this deadline and the stress associated with it made me realize that it was stupidly rash of me to set up such an optimistic release date and I do wish I haven't done that. For now I'm going to put the mod back into the TBD mode and simply keep you updated on every major progress that I make.
Perhaps that is not the best policy around, but I believe that the only choice I have now is to simply adopt Blizzard's "it'll be done when it's done". I'd rather not disappoint you anymore with another failed deadline, so I promise to set one up only when I'm 100% sure I can finish it on time.

I hope you forgive me and continue to support Ancient Kings, as I am not going to back down on this project.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to every one of you.
Thanks for your continuous support and see you in 2017.

Sorry, just got here.
Is this mod playable? Is it compatible with 2.7.1 version? I'm dying to play as city-state greek king and this seems to be the best mod for that.
If it is not compatible, nor already running, can someone recommend me a good mod for that?

All conversion mods usually break after 1 update so seeing that it was last updates in 2014, don't think we'll have any luck. I also want to play as a city-state greek king. Not saying it's unplayable because you can still change the version on steam to an earlier version by opening properties and going to beta... but I like an updated game with DLC.

I have nothing really to say other than "Patience", haha. The mod is pretty much in its infancy, but there is some progress, in fact I expect a large chunk of things to be done during summer, I'm just not exactly sure how much.

I used to be angry through the years, noting continueosly as the deadlines kept pushing and pushing and pushing...
Simoultaniously I fell deeper into heroin addiction, pushing the edge of reality farther down my vein...
Soon, one morning, I hoped, there would be now deadline,
soon my body and spirit would be ridden from Death...
But the needle kept returning to the same spot on my arms,
feet and legs,
until there was no vein amore, only dried blood of forgotten reality
I finally stumpled upon the notice, Reading with dreamy opiate-eyes;
"I will never make the same mistake again"
and found that simple Construction of Words,
to be a surprisingly satisfying truth,
And so fell the trust of Life
through dust and spite and cleaned
me to the definition of "Clean".
Until there was never to be,
a Deadline again.
