After being rescued from the Blood Harvest you find the driver of your rescue vehicle has become infected, and has crashed behind a massive asylum. The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.
I spent today getting a good workflow for exporting geometry from SketchUp into Hammer.
In the image above there are three custom objects: The curved fence, the building corner, and the rock trim along the left. There is a few missing textures along the fence, and the brick isn't what I would like. But not bad for a first export.
The valve SMD exporter does great at exporting just about any geometry.
Making a physics collision model is a lot more tedious. A collision model can only be made up of sold convex blocks.
But once I had the collision models made properly everything in-game works well.
For some reason a few of my models opened fine in the model viewer, but were invisible inside hammer. I will have to figure out what is up with that later.
is that it's true to life scale?
Yep, as accurate as I can get them.
The major outlines of the building are taken from the google earth image imported into SketchUp. That gives me the scale of the building outline.
I then extract the building upwards, using the building shadow as a rough guide. Then once I have a rough cut, I import reference photos. These give the final height and details of the building.
I do round the dimensions to the nearest 8 inches. This way when imported into hammer everything snaps to the grid easily.
