Action Half Life is designed to simulate the experience of being in an Action movie. Movies like Hard Boiled, Face Off, and Die Hard are the inspiration for AHL.
AHL aims for something called 'Movie Realism.' This means that you can take a few bullets and keep fighting. You can fall from a two story roof and only hurt your leg. You can bandage a wound in seconds. This doesn't mean you're invincible however, as hits to the head from large caliber weapons are instantly fatal, but a headshot even from a small pistol will put you within an inch of your life.
Of course, stunts play a large part in action movies, and likewise, play a large part in AHL. Dives, rolls, and long jumps can be executed for style and tactical advantage. There's nothing quite like diving through a window and capping the bad guy in the head before you hit the ground. This is a game of style and fun, not obsessive realism.

Hey, so I know that probably no one is going to see this or have any advice. But I'd like to know if anyone has experience with the FOV bug I'm having in this mod. The default_fov "x" cvar doesn't actually work and I think it's a problem with a core AHL .dll file. I'm running the current version of steam's Half-Life to launch AHL from and I can change my FOV just fine in Half-Life and all other Goldsrc mods being ran off it. I'm sure this is just some sort of hardcoded incompatibility with resolution changes, possibly a write issue, that in any case there is no hope for support as this mod's hay day is long gone. I'd appreciate any help if anyone has it though, because I can't enjoy the mod in it's tunnel vision 4:3-tailored FOV.

Bro, AHL has no active servers, has no community and obviously it's dead. In 2018 i have tried to remember name of this mod (i played it in 2004). But during my attempts to find any related information, google brings into my life another awesome ACTION MOD called "The Specialists 3.0.". The Specialists mod still alive, active players meets on public servers even now, since 18 years from mod announce date :) check out www.tsmod.net
yo, headsup this guy is a straight up POS who has commandeered the specialists into some funky half updated russian version that has main menu links that point straight to 2 specific servers, shady and rude. the ahl community has been alive WITH servers up for at least the past 15 years I have been playing with no break in the years
