There is a big difference:

HL 1 (non source) uses the goldSrc engine.
HL:Source uses the Source engine which is used in HL2 or CS:S.

The source engine is more powerful and supports better audio formats.

E.g.: In HL1 (non source) you can only take Mono sounds! No Stereo.
