Yup, full path. I've had no crashes - I just need to prefix the path with "aoss" to get working sound.

Would be nice if the Eschalon devs could fix this, or if the Desura devs would allow us to muck about with the path itself.

If you're using Slackware64 13.37 and not getting any sound in the demo for book 1, then start the game manually using the aoss wrapper.

$ aoss /path/to/Eschalon_Book_I_Demo

For some odd reason I can't add this manually to the Desura launcher options, and AFAIK there are no options in the game itself to fix this annoying issue.

Awesome bundle! Now where's the Desura keys? I see Steam there, but no Desura. What's up with that?
