I can say that I started out pretty young. At age 11, I got into the Serious Sam editors, but didn't do any good at it. Earned a name for myself for being a jackass, but by age 13, I made my first release. Amazingly, I got a good rating! Regardless, I wanted to do more, so I got into 3D modeling and programming. I've dropped the ball a couple of times, but I've also made some releases (no longer up).
Do yourself a favor. If you develop skill with something and have the motivation, keep pushing for it. I put aside my skills five years ago, and I dread it now that I am a student. Got a whole learning curve ahead of me now.
