What's so interesting about this? Well, check here: En.wikipedia.org
I will pick few interesting quotes:
"The Germans offered cash to the local Serbian population for the capture of Allied airmen but none of them were betrayed."
"More than a hundred diggers and as many ox-drawn carts were used to build. Because of the greater secrecy we worked mostly at night. The digging, leveling and cutting-down of trees created blisters on hands. In late March I sent a report to General Mihailović that the jobs around the airport were completed"
"A total of 417 allied airman were airlifted from Chetnik territory during Operation Halyard"
Remember, during the bombing of Yugoslavia by Allied forces, there were killed around 1500 Serbs (around 400 Germans, 100 Italians).
They made a movie about a hostage rescue in WW@, most of them died during the operation while when we saved these hostages, who were double in numbers, all survived.
Yeah and they call us bad people, terrorists and such. Truly pathetic.
Yes.. a truly great and inspirational part of the war which almost no one knows about sadly. It is remarkable just how much of sacrifice Serbian chetniks made in order to help strangers from a foreign land. RIP those that fell during the rescue effort.
