Should still be able to play but you might have to lower your graphics settings a lot and expect lower fps

We have an internal deadline of November. We keep December as a buffer but I hope we can release before christmas. There won't be an open beta though. It's a single player story game, that's kind of useless.
Oh wow thanks for the kind words! I really needed that lol. This mod doesn't have as much media attention as Desolation right now so sometimes it's easy to lose motivation when you feel like nobody cares about the project. The reactions I got to this article so far have been really heartwarming!
Aegis from mel is not a canon character. That's a completely separate mod project and he doesn't exist in this mod at all.
I do understand your questions regarding wheatly however. This mod plays closer to portal 1 than portal 2. We leverage the ambiguously huge time gap between the two games to invent new stories and don't necessarily care about the little details as having to explain everything is quite limiting on our possibilities and creativity. I don't think that this is necessarily a plot hole though. One could come up with many different explainations as to where wheatly is during the duration of this mod. Is he on some adventure himself? Is he managing a different part of the facility? Did Stirling maybe even talk to Wheatley about this? To me iz doesn't really matter. I'll let players to whom it does come up with their own narrative
It takes way more time to create story scenes than the average chamber. I explained it in the post, but there are so many different disciplines that need to come together. Lines need to be written, voice must be recorded, the audio needs to be mastered and ported into source where subtitles and soundscript are created. Then you make scenes, animate characters and have to add map logic to make it all work inside the level. Getting a single line of animated dialogue into the game can take around 30 minutes depending on its length. If you extrapolate that to a game of this size, it's a major effort.
On top of that, world animation, custom models and music needs to be created. We're doing our best to make the environment feel alive and interactive. One recent endevor we took part in are world-animations like collapsing environments. It's something valve did a lot since hl2ep2 and especially Portal 2 and we're also trying to make custom cinematic physics scenes.
I never like calling maps "story maps" or "puzzle maps" since in Portal: Revolution they're more mixed up and we have a lot of puzzles to break up story-heavy maps, but still, adding those story scenes takes a lot of time and is very important to us to get right. We don't treat story as an add-on to solving puzzles. It's a major part of the mod.
Hope that explains it better than the original post.
Small margin means less than a year to me. I hope we can release next summer but only time will tell. Still lots to do, but it feels like we're exiting mid-developmet hell and I start to see everything coming together.
I intentionally didn't specify when we plan to release next year because that's just not knowable now.
December 31 is probably the earliest we can release lol. Sorry that it's taking so long, but it will be worth it, trust me.
The name is not as straight forward as one might think, but it does make sense in the story, I can assure you of that!
You can read about it in the article "New Horizons" Moddb.com
Basically, Portal 2: Community Edition is a custom, community maintained Portal 2 engine which enables a bunch of incredibly useful features for mods.
Your title may be a little misspelled
Nice! I really enjoyed The Beginners Guide and this is a must play for anybody that feels the same way!
This looks like a lot of movement clutter. I hope it's not as bad as i imagine
The vactube doesn't cast projected texture shadows. Replace the combined model with the separate frame and glass model to fix it.
You are at the "new" page right now. I decided not to delete it, but rather just update it.
All the screenshots shown here are several years old. The mod got a complete visual, structural and story overhaul. You might as well call it a new project that only takes some ideas from the original piece, that lacked much direction and vision of an ultimate goal. I have neglected this moddb page ever since I made it. I plan to bring a media update soon-ish, when the first and second chapter are near completion. In the meantime, I removed all screenshots and will restructure this moddb page.
