Empire II

Mod review

I was really excited to play a "good" version of Empire. Did all the installing, the file diving to enable submods, followed the recommended settings and disabled replenishment, why not. Hop onto a Thirteen Colonies campaign and:
1. The AI is still atrocious and hard-coded. The Iroquois will always, always declare war, even when you have an alliance with them
2. They will sneak around your armies and sack infraestructure
3. The "EU IV style" events are usually "lose 1000 coins and public order now or lose stability and destroy your campaign"
4. You can´t see "CP" (unfortunate naming decision) anywhere, so you have to guess when you´re going to be able to get stability back
5. Random events killing off entire armies and taxation (Indian flux, Cholera), and remember, replenishment is off! You are losing 2 cannon to nothing!
6. Early game units are atrocious. No morale, no accuracy, no melee. You can´t hope to win a battle without either cheesing it or losing thousands
7. Crashing! Spent an hour fighting for Cayouga only for the game to crash as the enemy finally routed to army losses
8. Morale is wack. I kept my mouse over a unit of "garrison" natives and it went from wavering to eager in a second because I charged it with two cavs units???
9. Said cav units routed while pursuing broken enemies before that, btw, had to go pick them up with my general
10. Another hard-coded war with France after all this
11. The budget screen is broken! The game will tell you you´re going to make 1200 gold next turn, you hit the end turn button, and pop-in afterwards with a -2000 gold deficit. It wasn´t the awful events either (I was counting in my head, the only way to really gauge whether they are affecting you). This is vital because ONE turn in bankruptcy cuts your units by 20%, and remember, no replenishment as per the author´s recommendation.

Just go play Darthmod Napoleon and save yourself the bother.

P.S.: I almost forgot! There´s a diplomacy bug in the end-turn that makes other nations´ diplomatic proposals switch around to being yours. Every, single, turn, I need to turn down proposals to exchange one tech for another, AND pay them 100000 gold. Ended up accepting them, because the gold simply isn´t paid out and I was speedrunning the tech tree (as in full tier 1 military and tier 3 social sciences at turn 7).
