So... want to hear about their [first] deployment in the Los Angles summer riots of 1994?
Oh yea, since you can't access the work forums here's the lore for the croc: -[USA] M785 Crocodile Urban Combat Vehicle: Labeled infamously as UNITY’s “party van” by the media, the M785 Crocodile Urban Combat Vehicle was a rather curious design for the dual role of riot control and river patrol. The M785 was the product of a 1987 UNITY requirement for a vehicle that specializes in urban environments and be able to withstand landmines and IEDs. By the time the design was being finalized (in 1990) the designers realized that due to the sturdy structure of the vehicle that with a few modifications the design could also be made amphibious (though limited to brown water capabilities only and not actual amphibious assaults). Introduced in 1992, the M785 first saw action during the Los Angeles Riots of 1994. Currently, the Crocodile is equipped only to UNITY Ground Control’s Urban Combat units. As with most UNITY vehicles, the M785 can be equipped with a variety of weapon mounts, though the most common is the 40mm Mk. 42 automatic grenade launcher, usually loaded with “APHE (Advance Penetrating High Explosive) grenades” that can be set to explode only when it penetrates the body of an person or vehicle, causing maxim damage (field reports stated that the grenades usually cause bodies to literally “explode”).
The official story: an attempt by EA (yes, Entertainment Arts in this timeline) to bankrupt other company with frivolous lawsuits caused massive outrage in LA (and the rest of the nation, but mostly in LA), and UNITY Urban Command was forced to step in to quell the riots via use of force... Oh yea, in the end EA didn't win the lawsuits because the other companies were helped by lawyers who volunteered their services.
What actually happened: unknown forces *cough* resistance groups who didn't get the memo that they lost the 2nd Civil War *cough* destroyed the water processing plants and the power grid of LA (this occurred during the summer), since the water supply is drugged to keep the population docile, this effectively made LA into a city without power and full of people suffering from withdraw... In the end, UNITY was forced to condor off the city and nerve gas the entire population (via air burst artillery shells)... As you can guess, that part didn't make it into the news.
Yes, I intentional made the official story as trivial as possible, the fact that most of the pop simply accepted the news as such is an indication of how much "soft" control (i.e. not overt usage of power or enactment of laws) the government & UNITY has over the nation and how the people ceased to care about things that matter over trivial **** (is the drugged water I wonder...).
Better. :)
