Whenever I find a game I really enjoy, I play it until it starts to get boring... and then I look to see what I can change. The modding process itself keeps my interest for quite a while, and definately extends my enjoyment of the original game. It is not necessarily about improving games... it is often extending or alternatives as much as improvements.
