In addition, the file downloaded is simply a RAR file(I see it is indicated as such above in the description of the download)but not as a zipped file. I have tried compressing it myself then placing it in the appropriate Steam folders, but when I unzip the folder, it is the same RAR file with nothing more. Once again, any help would be appreciated, as I may be just missing a step or downloading this file with the wrong settings.

I realize this comment is a tad late, but I want to see if anyone is having this issue. I am currently downloading Half Life 2 on steam and have downloaded the Visitor Center demo, but it seems to be downloading as a RAR file. Is that the correct format for it? Am I missing a step? Appreciate any help that could be provided.

Alright, I know I am may be risking sounding like an idiot for asking this, but why will it not let me start a new game once it is downloaded? It appears on my steam account and everything is fine, I go to start a new game and it doesn't respond. And when I click to play the training level, it just freezes at the loading screen and I have to shut it down. Any help here, guys? Would appreciate it.
