Report RSS Salvage Storm Dev Post: The Main Character, The Horse and Cactus-man

I've done some work in the past few weeks. One of effects is that I want the player to travel the world and to take in as much scenery as they possible can, I want this because I want to add variety of levels to make the game less boring and to have alot of sights in the game. As the game is set in the Wild West, there's alot of travelling to see the great sights however I want to make the game more fun by cutting the boring 'nothing-but-desert' scenes. That is why I modeled a horse as a prototype, it's just a 3D model covered entirely in brown.

It's took me around 3 days in a period of a week to model entirely, which was a challenge. Animation and coding it is alot more easier however I haven't decided how much horse is needed in the game. Hopefully I'll make the player lose and die out if he shoots his own horse, which adds for effect. Dies of dehydration or starvation because the player can't find their own way back because of the lack of transportation and is needed for the story. You can see the effect here as I've included in screenshot, imagine if you were in the desert here during dawn and moved towards the horse and the game loaded to the daybreak scene with the horse still there. That's the effect I want.

This cabin scene here is like an HQ before the adventure begins. I've done alot of research in what I want before making the mod and it's represented as a cabin. It will be placed as the intro as the player starts the game. The cabin will have the basic stuff like table to eat, bedroom with bed and wardrobe, table with food and bathroom with toilet at the back of the cabin. It's alot of work just to have players not to player, as the other levels are much bigger and will have puzzles and etc. If the mod becomes as big as I will like, another intro will be made more fitting to the mod but for now, this works as it represents what I'm trying to present in this project.

Finally I created Cactus-man. A diseased cactus that is angry and wants someone to put out of his misery. The whole purpose of Cactus-man was to test to see how well of models are produced for the mod. Hopefully he looks scary and bizarre enough for any unreal game. In my opinion, he's good enough to make it into the final. The video presents some cases where Cactus-man freezes, it's because I haven't coded death animations in some areas of the model, where Cactus-man has no animation or coding to react to what happening in the game, which I will place soon.

Other things I've done last month is explore the original Unreal code to see what I can do with it, make more maps, but not that much mapping as I would of liked, because I had that modelling task that I wanted to do. Hopefully it's not much modelling now considering that I consider the horse to be the most difficult thing I've ever made for this mod and I'll be able to quickly produce the maps that I want to make my story, which I've plan for the game work.

I can't re-work the HUD yet as I would of liked after testing what can be changed or not, so that's going to have to wait, so it's better if I just get the mod out of the way and see if you guys like it, because I'm really unsure if people still play Unreal Gold for them to get them to play the mod. It would be good however because it's you, the Unreal players that make this mod work.
