I haven't played Diablo 3, but I am familiar with it, and you're absolutely right. The painted 3D style works very well with the 2D art. We've looked at a lot of other games which inspired us, which also had that painted look.

I found that Apollo's concepts were very inspiring themselves and to keep our 3D assets coherent with the rest of the 2D visuals we've went down that route too. So things like The water etc will be traditionally animated, where as assets like Kit, etc will be 3D, but exported as 2D assets.

We're looking forward to showing more in Part 2!
