Dude, the Chernobyl disaster was in 1986. What do you expect? The radiation has even decreased below severely hazardous levels in most parts of the red zone. There are some hot spots left, but why would one go there? And about ash ... there wasn't a nuclear detonation recently.
There are some sandstorms in summer, and all facility personnel and the few inhabitants of Pripyat and surrounded areas are warned about rising radiation levels, but that's only for a short time then. So, Chernobyl has returned to being a regular landscape in eastern europe. Nothing special except for the sarcophagus, the ghost town and some radioactive junkyards.
