Little unfortunate to hear the units are going since they had a cool, mystical vibe that helped the Fairies seem more magical and otherworldly, buuuuut it's also completely fair. They don't really provide much to the Fairies general gameplay, and they do look a little out of place visually.

It's good seeing that each faction will still keep some unique gameplay styles, as that was one of my favorite things about the mod

Man, the Fairies are really benefitting from this new build style, they ACTUALLY look like fairy groves now rather than random patches of rocks and buildings.

It does look like you forgot the Buildings in the second pic here though

Fair, and they're pulling off the look pretty well. I do kind of wish they looked a little more fantastical since Hyrule is a VERY fantastical place, but their realistic Conquistador/Spanish aesthetic works in a fun way to clash against the high fantasty setting, kind of like the Telmarine's in Narnia (which I think Neph said was a direct inspiration behind this Labrynna at one point)

And hell yeah to the cannon stars

The loss of the Steam punk aesthetic is a bit of a shame, BUT the new build style makes up for it by giving them a very visually impressive fortress

That reasoning is pretty fair for why the Mezoamerican style isn't coming back, though doesn't this mean that both the Lizalfos and the Stalfos now share the feature of repurposing the map's ruins? Even if it's not mechanical, visually they'd blend together closer than most other factions do. Do you have a workaround for that?

Also, the old style was kind of cool with how the buildings visually changed based on your picks. I think a lot of us will miss that feature

I was a little worried that you completely ditched their cool Mesoamerican inspired architecture for plain old hylian ruins, but then I say the parentheses with 'ancient ruins variation' and am significantly less worried. I still worry that the visual design of the ruins variation creeps too closely to the Stalfos aesthetic of ancient hylian ruins too, but so long as the old version with the pyramid structures remains as a style, I'll be happy

I've a question about Wonders. When a Wonder is constructed, will the wonder have additional plots for more buildings/fortifications, or will they be all by their lonesome in the middle of the map? I'm worried that they'd become difficult to keep if they were completely alone (and thus making your titan likely useless by the time you get it out), but on the other hand though, if it's too heavily fortified than the structure could prove too difficult to take for the tug-of-war like struggle you're trying to go for.

And side question, what's going to happen to fortresses? Will they still exist in the game in some form or are they going to have to be cut?

While all of the factions look great visually due to the Node building style, Lanayru is definitely going to be one of the ones that benefit the most from it, as now they can use their gorgeous bridges and create a better visual sense of unity

Eh, possibly. That's what I was thinking at first too, but the more thought I put into it, the more I'm thinking that this system should result in more balanced, and simplified gameplay that should make things more straightforward. It currently feels like a bit of a mess with the current system, and the Node system easily breaks up the map into capturable 'points' that should turn the game into something more resembling an intense tug of war between two players.

At the very least though, the current version will also still work with 0ad, so you can always go back to that if you're not fond of the Node System. I will miss building my own little cities, but I think it's a fair sacrifice for more structured/focused gameplay

This does look to be a complete visual redesign of the Gohmas' structures, but I think this is for the better. While I will miss the previous visual design of the Gohma, they had a LOT of repeated models and assets that started to make everything blend together. They also felt TOO close to StarCraft's Zerg with their structure design, and the Gohma going in a more 'Spider-y' direction and focusing on dead trees and webs works better in my opinion while also leaning into their theme of being Spiders.

Will the Battle For Middle-Earth building style be completely replacing the version we already have, or function in conjunction with the current system?

It looks cool as hell, but I do worry that it'd take away the individuality the factions have with their gameplay by restricting everyone to a plot-based build style and also limit how many structures a player could have (though maybe not, I'm not familiar with how BfME handles it, briefly seen it from others)

How will factions like the Deku, Darknut, Lanayru Province, and Stalfos even work with it since their building styles are so wildly unique?

YO, THESE NEW SETTLEMENTS LOOK HELLA COOL!!!

Will these be replacing freebuilding for every faction? I kind of hope they don't since that'd basically restrict every faction to a plot based gameplay structure, which would be a shame since the varied building styles of the game are one of it's highlights. If these are just additions though and only function in ADITION to the freebuilding style we've always had, than that's super ******' coolF

Edit: Eh, looks like this will be completely replacing freebuilding, and that stings on some level, but I think it's a worthy replacement, especially if the gameplay improves (and It looks like it should. At the very least, bases should start to look more visually impressive)

Little hard to say since Neph's got the final say on everything, and there's been a few recent changes with how factions are being approached (some getting merged into others), but it LOOKS like it should be either the Wizzrobe or River Zora based on the faction symbols Neph put out a while ago. It could be the Guardians or Oocaa though, as Neph has a little progress on the Guardians so far.

Surprised at the lack of Akazoo and Azrily, but the visual variety with these heroes is absolutely great. Different shapes, sizes, and archetypes between them all, helping them all stand out visually from each other as characters and on the battlefield (something a lot of other factions can kinda struggle with)

Hell yeah, this is looking great so far. It kind of seems like an expansion of the Darknut's ruins feature, and I think that's briliant for a faction specifically themed around the remains of something lost.

possibly, that's dependent on if the team can get the newest version of 0a.d. to work nicely with HC. The team might stick with 0.23 for the Shiekah release if they can't get 0.24 to play nice

It's unfortunate to hear that you guys are running into frustrating problems with 0ad's newest release, but we're happy you're updating us on the situation. We can patiently wait. Try not to stress yourselves out too much, since you guys are making this for free. Wish you the best of luck

Well, since we know that factions getting merged into each other to save on dev time and the rebooted lore, I've got a few little guesses for which ones could be mixed. The first guess is that a LOT of the Twili factions are going to be merged with one another to try and condense their six factions. The Twili are cool, but I don't imagine there's enough there to create six even semi-unique factions. Next guess might be the Guardians. "Who with?" You might be asking, and that's where things kinda get interesting, as I think there's three different possibilities. Option A is to fuse the Malice faction into the Guardians similar to how the Yiga were fused into the general Sheikah. Second option is to completely rework them into being new/more Oocca units as while they've got a cool aesthetic going on, the Oocca also reuse a LOT of the same assets. Last option is to rework both the Guardians and The Silent Ones. It really doesn't make all that much sense at first, but they've both kinda got that vaguely Robotic look to them, and the Silent Ones are just the Guardians from Skyward Sword, so mixing Guardians could be kinda fun on a meta level. Last one I'm going to say here is possibly mixing the Volvalgians into the Lizalfos, allowing them to gain two new heroes and maybe some new units too. They're currently listed as an NPC factions, so they'll likely stay that way, but I think it could be a fun idea that benefits both factions. There's probably a lot of other potential Faction fusions that are more obvious, but I don't think I should write a novel length post for that. Looking forward to seeing what's in the future.
