Misery has weird weapon distribution script, I wish they left unique character weapons' as they were and did random weaponry only to other stalkers.
Better not get in the way.
It's okay and good having all NPCs able to carry different weapons rather than only one, we the players do the same ! this one was funny :) I feel much safer now traveling with him, and I think I know why he brought the PKM, it's because we took the hard way, I did not give him the maps :P
